The Secretary of the Department of Social Services is appointed by the Governor and is responsible for the overall administration and direction of the department. Social Services manages the following programs: Medical Services, Child Protection Services, Child Support, Economic Assistance which includes SNAP (Supplemental Nutritional Assistance Program), Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF), Energy Assistance and Medical Eligibility, and Behavioral Health Services.
