The South Dakota Rehabilitation Center for the Blind helps individuals who are blind or have low vision build the skills they need to live independently and confidently. Trained staff provide personalized instruction designed to support safety, self-reliance, and meaningful participation in daily life. Services include: Computer Training: Instruction in using computers with assistive technology, such as screen readers, magnification, and Braille displays, to improve digital skills and access to information. Orientation and Mobility: Training in safe and effective travel skills, including techniques for navigating environments with or without a white cane. Communication Skills: Lessons in Braille and other communication methods to support reading, writing, and information access. Home Management: Teaching essential daily living skills such as cooking, cleaning, laundry, and organizing household tasks. Manual/Creative Arts: Hands-on instruction in the safe use of hand and power tools to build practical skills and self-confidence. Low Vision Services: Access to low-vision evaluations and adaptive devices that support reading, writing, and daily tasks.
