Works collaboratively to promote job creation through economic growth and sustainable development by forming partnerships with local and tribal businesses with a community goal of moving toward self-sustainment to improve the living standards of the Sisseton-Wahpeton Oyate Tribe. Programs that fall under the Department of Commerce include Tax and Revenue Office, Lake Traverse Utility Commission, Department of Transportation, Natural Resources, Planning Department, Tribal Employment Rights Office (TERO), and Tribal Realty.
