The National Guard enables its troops to respond to domestic emergencies, combat missions, counterdrug efforts, reconstruction missions and more both at home and abroad. The SD Army National Guard facilities in Sioux Falls include the National Guard Armory, the 196th Regional Training Institute, a small arms firing range, and the Unit Training Equipment Site. Identification cards for service members, dependents, and retirees may be obtained by calling to make a appointment. The National Guard sponsors and is host to STARBASE, a program that teaches elementary students the merits of science in a well-rounded education.
