The intent of program benefits, such as Medicaid, is to provide assistance to South Dakotans when the benefits are not available elsewhere or the other benefits have not met all of an individual's needs. The Office of Recoveries and Fraud Investigations seeks reimbursement when the state has issued payment for benefits that were obtained inappropriately or when another party was responsible for issuing payment. Field offices with fraud investigators are located in Pierre, Sioux Falls, and Rapid City.
