Supplemental Nutritional Assistance Program (SNAP) is a supplemental food program that enables eligible households to obtain a more nutritious diet. Eligibility is determined by income, resources, and household size. Lost, stolen, or damaged EBT (SNAP) cards must call customer service to report the loss of your card. You will need to enter the card number. If you do not have the card, stay on the line for a second prompt and press 2. Reporting an EBT card as lost, stolen, or damaged will result in that card being declined.

Work related transportation is for individuals who are employed (not those searching/looking for work, or needing to get to medical appointments, out of town travel, etc.):

• Assistance for people who have a job/new employment and need help getting there

This assistance does NOT require an appointment; can be walk-in

• Provides 30-day bus passes and $50.00 gas vouchers. Both are available once every 12 months.

Proof of employment is required for a bus pass. Gas voucher requires proof of employment, valid driver's license, valid vehicle registration, and valid vehicle insurance policy

• Car repairs where the vehicle is needed for employment.

Must not have had work done on vehicle due to specific auto shops who accept voucher in Sioux Falls. Up to $300.00 available. This assistance requires an appointment. Only available once per lifetime.

The Ryan White Part B CARE Program provides services to HIV positive individuals who reside in the State of South Dakota. Services include the Aids Drug Assistance Program (ADAP), assistance with health care costs, assistance with insurance enrollment and premium payments, and one on one case management/counseling services for individuals who are HIV positive. The HIV Prevention Program is for anyone residing in the State of South Dakota who has concerns about HIV/STD's. Services include information on health care providers and HIV testing services, one-on-one counseling for HIV/STD concerns, free condom distribution, free information regarding HIV and STD's, and information and assistance accessing PrEP.

Provides direct patient health care services including: promoting education and awareness of proper diet, exercise and health care practices; providing health care to patients with diabetes complications; education on reducing/preventing disease and accidents; providing transportation to health care facilities for patients; assisting IHS in providing baby and well-child immunizations checks; informing proper agencies of any violations and conducting follow-ups; gerontology for the elderly population; reducing rate of teenage pregnancy, STD's, with awareness and prevention practices; conducting Wellness, Health and Nutrition Awareness workshops/clinics; providing direct health care services to physically impaired individuals; providing medical transportation by means of the Transit Program; providing community health worker services; and providing animal care services to canine and feline species.

A state agency that works with individuals who are blind and or visually impaired in the area of employment and independent living. Services that are available if eligible Vocational counseling and evaluation, Job placement, Training in specialized skills of blindness (cane, travel, braille, daily living), Job development, On-the-job training, Job follow-up, Assistive technology services, Job retention, Funding for post-secondary training or eye surgery (If economic need is met), and Low Vision services (includes a visual examination conducted by a trained specialist in the field of low vision, assessment of visual functioning of individual needs and goals, prescriptions for specialized low vision devices, and individualized training).

Provides the following services - Advocacy: Teaches people with disabilities the skills needed to advocate for themselves. Independent Living Skills: Provides hands-on training in daily-living skills including cooking, budgeting, organizing, and more. Information and referral: Connects people with resources which can provide needed information to assist individuals to live independently. Peer counseling: Provides opportunities for people with disabilities to engage with others in small or large groups or on an individual basis. Transition: Facilitates the transition of individuals with disabilities from a nursing home to independent living; providing prevention services to individuals who choose to live independently and not in a nursing home or assisted-living setting; and assisting youth to gain skills as they transition into adulthood. Community Living Services: Assists individuals in obtaining accessible, affordable housing, transportation, and other community living services. Home Modifications Adaptive Devices: Provides home modifications and adaptive devices, which could include ramps, lift chairs, bathroom modifications, reachers, canes, walkers and more. Telecommunication Adaptive Devices: Provides adapted telecommunication services, which includes an emergency phone dialer. American's with Disabilities Act: Serves as educators and consultants for contractors, businesses, organizations, and individuals regarding the American with Disabilities Act (ADA) and its guidelines and requirements. Assistive Daily Living Services: Provides services for people ages 18 and older, with physical disabilities affecting all four limbs, who need assistance with daily living activities. Services include program education and support and personal attendant services. Home Again South Dakota: Provides options for older adults and/or people with disabilities living in nursing homes, hospitals, or long-term care facilities to enable them to successfully return to their homes and communities. Helps individuals identify barriers to living on their own, helps them find a place to live that meets their needs, and helps them find the services and supports they need to continue living independently.

Rural Office of Community Services, Inc offers the following basic needs services:

• Emergency Rental Assistance

Must be behind (i.e.: if rent is due on the 5th, come for assistance after the 5th). Eviction notice is not required, however, there will be a form the landlord needs to complete the verify rent is past due.

Repeat home buyer loan program offers low interest, fixed rate mortgage loans and cash assistance Governors' House Program for income qualified individuals and families. Administers federal programs for development and management of multifamily housing, housing counseling, and homelessness services. Home buyer education Down payment assistance Home improvement loans i.e.. CHIP (Community Home Improvement Program) which is for low income homeowners (limit is 120% of median income) to make repairs or improvements to their home. Interest rate is 2.9%. Responsible to keep, audit and maintain all accounting records for Brown County as set forth in the accounting manual prescribed by the Auditor-General. This includes the following: Auditing claims & preparing the warrants for all disbursements, processing payroll, preparing the annual budget, establishing tax levies for all taxing entities, apportions the taxes collected by the County Treasurer, verification of bank account balances, prepare the annual financial reports, and keeping an inventory of county property. Serves as the clerk of the County Commission and records and preserves the records of the Commission proceedings including the Board of Equalization hearings. The Auditor is also responsible for preparing the agenda for the Commission meetings and for publishing the legal notices for the Commission including but not limited to meeting minutes, public hearing notices for Bids; Alcohol & Malt Beverage License applications; Ordinances; Lottery Permits and Tax Deed Sales. At the close of the month lists all cash and cash items held by the County Treasurer and verify the balances in the depositories and report this to the Board of Commissioners. Performs all duties required by law relative to all County, State, and Federal elections held in Brown County. The County Auditor is the Election Supervisor for the County which entails the following duties: Voter Registrations, Securing Polling Places, Appointing and training of Election Poll Workers, Ballot Preparation, Counting of Ballots, Reporting Election Results, Preparing an Official Canvass of the Election, and maintain all Voter Registrations and Election History Records. Offers the following emergency assistance as a very last resort (individuals must utilize all other local organizations before reaching out to Welfare): Economic Assistance - Rent/Utility shut offs (disconnects) County does not help with deposits, of any kind, reconnect fees or previous/past bills. One-time assistance allowed in a 12 month period for economic assistance. Assistance must be repaid, and failure to repay disqualifies from further assistance. Medical Assistance is only for emergency hospitalizations for which the hospital provided the County a notice of hospitalization. Any other hospital or medical bills must be approved before the procedure is undertaken. Failure to sign up for health care insurance if that option is available and affordable will disqualify someone from assistance. No assistance with prescriptions, medical equipment or therapy(s). Burial All assistance received becomes a poor relief lien and is to be paid back to the county.

Eye care professionals will also help patients find eyewear that fits your face width, nose size, and eye size.

Provides individuals with a variety of education and skills to help them reach a fresh start and get back on their feet. Opportunities include 1:1 Mentor training, parenting classes, relationship/boundary classes, financial classes. goal setting, emotional support, and spiritual encouragement. Also provides church and community resources available through the Love Inc Connection Center and Gap Ministries.

Purpose is to help residents of Lead/Deadwood who call in to request assistance, or need referrals to deal with life's challenges. The phones are not manned 24/7. For immediate assistance, dial 911 (emergencies) or 211 (for information and referral).

Responsible for Commissioners proceedings, agendas, and records, Accounting records, revenue, and expense reports, Voter registration and elections, Business licenses for beer and liquor, Figures of taxes for real estate and mobile homes, County bid letting (business proposals), Managing employee drug and alcohol testing programs, and Paying county bills. Butte County Auditor is considered the county welfare office and assists with indigent county burials, involuntary mental committals, utility payment assistance, and medical indigent claims. As a last resort/dire situation, sometimes this office is able to help with rent. For assistance, an application is required to be filled out in its entirety and there is a repayment plan. Each case is diligently researched to make certain any and all options may have been exhausted first.

Charging Buffalo Facility: Processes buffalo, game, and beef for the Lakota. The facility also provides employment opportunities, helps bring back the buffalo herds for indigenous people, and provides healthy, traditional meat to the Food Distribution Program. Wood for Heat: Employs Lakota people to harvest wood and deliver free firewood to people in need.

The Auditor is the keeper of County records and acts as a bookkeeper of County business. The Auditor is responsible for County Commissioner meetings including scheduling, agenda, business follow-up, Preparing the County's budget, Audit bills or other claims against the County and prepare the warrants in payment of these bills, Figuring the mil levy, and Head election officer of the County. Notary Public services available. Some fees may apply. Based on eligibility guidelines, Welfare services include medical assistance, utilities assistance for disconnect notices on heating bills, and burial and funeral assistance.

The Counseling Center offers the following services (all services based on eligibility and priority needs): Substance abuse services include screening, intake, evaluation, referrals, aftercare, primary prevention programs, education, MRT/SBISA classes, and group counseling. ​Mental health services include couples therapy, family therapy, individual therapy, group therapy, Education, Referrals, and Psychological evaluations and services.

Provides emergency veterinary care and pet cremation grants to pet owners in the Black Hills who are experiencing financial hardship. Does not provide 100% funding and pet owners must pay a portion of their bill prior to the grant being paid to the vet clinic. All grants are paid directly to veterinary clinics and never to the applicant. ​​ Does not assist with routine care, spay/neutering, chronic conditions, or euthanasia costs. In order to qualify for cremation grants, euthanasia must be deemed medically necessary by a licensed veterinarian.
