Supplemental Nutritional Assistance Program (SNAP) is a supplemental food program that enables eligible households to obtain a more nutritious diet. Eligibility is determined by income, resources, and household size. Lost, stolen, or damaged EBT (SNAP) cards must call customer service to report the loss of your card. Services provided by this office are a last resort. If eligibility criteria are met, assistance may include burial assistance, medical expense assistance, utility assistance, and rent assistance.

• Proof of income can include the following: Wages, self-employment, Child Support, Alimony, Social Security, SSI, SSI State Supplement, BIA GA, TANF-Food Stamps, Unemployment, Worker's Compensation, Section 8, Veteran's Benefits, Retirement, Pensions, Annuities, Dividends, Rental Income, Tribal Lease, Per Capita Income, Prizes, Money from Family or Friends, and/ or all other sources of income for all persons living in the home.

Picture ID for all adults in the household Social Security numbers for everyone in the household Names and date of birth for all children in the household

Individuals can become Master Gardeners by attending a series of training sessions related to horticulture with the understanding they will give back at least 40 hours of volunteer time in the form of Educational Outreach, Service, or Support Activities. Community activities include: Gardening with the Masters (ongoing) Water Festival (annually in March) Plant Sale (annually in May) Garden Tours (every other year in July) Community Gardens (growing season) Horticulture Newsletter From the Ground Up (April - October) Downtown/Old Courthouse Museum Flowerbed Urban Ag Expanded Teaching Garden at Mary Jo Wegener Arboretum

Gas vouchers transportation to medical appointments. Vouchers can only be given once in a calendar year.

Serves individuals and families in need with Food Pantry, Crisis Fund (1 time / year) depending on availability of funds - Rent (can include rent or deposit); Utility assistance including: deposit, past due bill, and disconnect notices for trash, water, lights, and heating; and help with budgeting/financial planning. Backpack School program - weekend food for Beresford School students. Faith in Action also networks clients with other organizations/ resources that may help them with their situation.

Through its community-wide fundraising efforts, the Capital Area United Way helps to support 35 programs and services offered through 15 local United Way funded agencies. Supports Community Impact Programs that help improve the lives of people affected by issues such as health, income and education. Programs include Girls on the Run/Girls on Track serves girls in 3-8th grade and helps prepare them for a lifetime of self-respect and healthy living. Imagination Library provides free books to children, ages 0-5, who reside in Hughes and Stanley counties. Mobile Dental Program helps children who don't have access to dental care. Project H.E.R.O. provides milk tickets and emergency transportation tickets to students to ensure they are healthy and able to get to school on time, and ready to learn; and the Lion's Club Vision Screening. Serves as a connecting place for volunteer opportunities. Agencies share that information through a publication in the paper called Volunteer Connections, as well as in the high school newspaper. Also, helps connects groups looking for a project with agencies needing volunteers.

Auditor services include:

• The Auditor is the keeper of County records and acts as a bookkeeper of County business. The Auditor is responsible for County Commissioner meetings including scheduling, agenda, business follow-up, Preparing the County's budget, Audit bills or other claims against the County and prepare the warrants in payment of these bills, Figuring the mil levy, and Head election officer of the County.

• Provides both economic and medical assistance to residents of Beadle County on a one time basis. Economic assistance is for current amounts only. No payment for deposits of any kind. Rent, Utility assistance for current bills may be available for water, lights, and heating, and Medical, hospitalization, and burial assistance requires pre-approval if not for emergency services.

All other resources must have been exhausted first. Assistance does require payback and county lien is filed until paid in full. Planning & Zoning services include:

• Takes applications for building permits, administers the County zoning ordinances and makes recommendations to the Commission for granting or denying the permits. Assist with educational programs, Investigate complaints and zoning violation, Modify county ordinances, Prepare annual department budget and public meeting agendas, Property rezoning and platting, Review concentrated animal feeding operations, and Site plan reviews.

Update County Commission and Planning and Zoning Commission on current activities, trends, changes in law, and policies. -

Parks and Recreation office provides tree planting information, oversight of the Auld-Brokaw Trail System, maintains a trail and parks map, and oversees park and facility rental. The Parks and Recreation department offers a recreation scholarship program for youth under 17 who live in Yankton to attend one swimming lesson and one recreation program per year dependent on class openings and financial and/or personal hardship. Summit Activities Center features an indoor pool with water slide, 2 gymnasiums, 3 multi-purpose rooms, cardiovascular equipment, multi-station weights, free weights, small indoor track, and locker facilities. Summit Activities Center outdoor facilities include 8 lighted tennis courts, an all-weather track, 2 softball fields, a walking path, and an arboretum with many different variety of trees and shrubs. Huether Family Aquatics Center is located at the intersection of 21st Street and Douglas. Offers an Olympic-sized pool, 2 3-meter high dive spring boards, 2 1-meter spring boards, 2 small water slides, and a Wading pool.

Auditor services include auditing of all financial records of the County, apportioning of taxes collected by the Treasurer to be disbursed to the Schools, Cities, and other special assessment entities, county accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, budgets, and tax levy, beer and liquor licensing, county liens, county assistance loan applications, recorder of the minutes for the Board of County Commissioners, and maintains all voter records. Based on eligibility guidelines, Welfare services include medical assistance and burial and funeral assistance.

LifeSight provides four primary programs:

• KidsFIRST: provides free vision screenings for pre-school and elementary school children by means of partnerships with area eye care professionals and local volunteers. To schedule a KidsFIRST free vision screening, contact LifeSight at 605-716-6733. Screenings are available for children 6 months of age - 5th grade.
• Gift of Sight: provides sight-saving surgeries to those in our community without the financial means to afford care, helping these individuals regain their vision, and most importantly, independence, mobility and quality of life. This program is available only by referral from an area eye doctor (optometrist or ophthalmologist).

- VisionCARE: provides no-cost eye exams and glasses, critical to one's overall health and wellbeing, to individuals who meet program criteria and have no other option for care, providing a simple but powerful path to helping people see better to live better. • Scholarship Program: Annually awards the LifeSight Dr. Paul L. Zimmerman Memorial Endowed Scholarship to a fourth year student at the University of South Dakota Sanford School of Medicine planning to pursue a career in ophthalmology.

LifeSight does not offer Eye Examinations, but serves as a resource and referral contact for those with vision impairment.

Healthcare and emergency dental care to financially eligible residents of the northern Black Hills, ages 19-94, regardless of health insurance status. The Lead clinic provides medical services only. Patients at the Lead clinic may visit the Spearfish location for dental services. Referrals are made for diagnostic imaging or radiology, general lab tests and flu vaccines. ​​Works with 7 pharmacies in Belle Fourche, Deadwood, Lead, Spearfish and Sturgis.

Provides assistance for electricity, water, food vouchers, and emergencies.

Provides a full range of primary healthcare services including physical exams, chronic disease management, acute illness management, physicals, well child exams, children/adolescent/men/women healthcare services, immunizations, telemedicine related to medical and mental health needs, certified laboratory services, All Women Count services, assistance with Marketplace insurance enrollment, and allergy injections. Some sites provide Department of Transportation physicals. Nurse triage available for after-hours calls. Situation will be assessed by a registered nurse with further guidance provided. Strives to meet the needs of all patients, including the underinsured and underserved and offers services at a reduced rate to those who qualify.

Based on eligibility guidelines, office provides Indigent Medical Expenses, Indigent Burial Expenses, and General poor relief Applicant is required by law to repay the county for assistance given, per SDCL 28-14. County is payer of last resort.

Provides assistance with indigent individuals that are residents of Brule County for emergency hospitalization bills and burial costs. Also, is a voter registration location, can provide election information, is a point of contact for the county commission and has a notary public.

Delta Dental's mobile truck provides quality care to children from first tooth through age 21 who can't afford or access a dentist. Service is provided at no cost to the family, and no insurance is necessary. The van travels to different communities, and is not an ongoing service (typically happens 1 or 2 times a year at a location).

Services include spiritual services, utility bill expense assistance (on individual case basis), rent payment assistance (on individual case basis), mortgage payment assistance (on individual case basis), clothing, shelter, emergency services, character building programs, and offer some hotel assistance if funding allows. Please note - there is no physical homeless shelter, but shelter may be provided in the form of a hotel voucher (if funding is available).
