Federal law requires the Selective Service System to maintain a registry, or list, of men from which to draw in case of a national emergency. The list is only used if Congress and the President instruct SSS to support manpower needs identified by the Department of War. Men born on or after December 18, 2000, will be automatically registered beginning in December 2026. NOTE: Registering with Selective Service System does not mean you are joining the military.
