LSS Center for Financial Resources provides financial counseling and education, housing resources, and debt management. Services include: Financial Education, Financial Management/Budget Session, Debt Management Program, Bankruptcy Counseling, Credit Report Consultation, and Student Loan Consultation. We also offer Housing Resources including: First-Time Homebuyer Sessions, Homebuyer Education Seminars, Homeowner Financial Management Sessions, Mortgage Foreclosure Prevention, and Rental Housing Counseling and Education. Meets with clients to review their spending plan and overall financial situation. This includes creating and reviewing a spending plan, taking a look at any debts they have, identifying the cause of any financial issues, and exploring options and solutions specific to their situation. Lutheran Social Services does not consolidate debt. The debt management plan allows clients to make one monthly payment through the LSS agency to their creditors. This helps clients pay off debts on a budget that works for them. If this is not a realistic option, the certified credit counselors will work to create an action plan to explore other alternatives.

East River Legal Services (ERLS) provides the following services in civil cases: Advocacy Legal Counseling Self-Help Services (Clinics/Workshops/Informational Forms) In-Depth Legal Representation Community Education Housing Retention Specialist Case priorities include support for the family, preserving housing, maintaining economic stability, safety, health, and populations with special vulnerabilities. ERLS provides services to low-income residents with legal issues in the following areas of law: Domestic Violence Victims Elder Law Housing Public Entitlements (i.e. Medicaid, Food Stamps, TANF, WIC) Social Security/SSI Disability Veterans There is no guaranteed acceptance of any case. The above examples also do not necessarily disqualify cases outside of these parameters. Cases ERLS does NOT assist with include: criminal, business, or immigration. Services Disclaimer: ERLS's ability to provide legal assistance is subject to change based on availability of staff/volunteers. Programs and Services: First Time Homebuyer Education (Attendees may be eligible to receive discounts on closing costs.) Adult/Youth Financial Literacy and Debt Management (We teach tenants how to evaluate their current financial condition, budget their expenses, and set financial goals so they are able to pay their monthly rent on time.) Credit Review Services (We assist clients establish credit and improve credit scores.) Rental Education (Clients learn about tenant-landlord relationships, financial planning, credit restore & rescore.) Classes are offered by appointment either as an individual or in a group session (virtual, in person, or online course).

A resource for renters, potential homeowners, lenders, landlords and other housing professionals to utilize to understand their rights and responsibilities. The ombudsman will answer questions and act as a mediator to help find an answer that both parties can accept. The ombudsman will also coordinate awareness of fair housing statewide. The ombudsman will listen to both sides of the story and work to resolve the dispute. If the dispute is unresolved and potentially involves housing discrimination, the ombudsman will assist in completing a complaint form with the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD). A resource for people who have questions related to having a companion animals - typically in a rental situation where the landlord does not allow pets.

Focused on improving housing conditions and fighting for fair rent. Works to hold landlords accountable for holding up their end of a lease and providing a safe place to live. Provides advocacy for tenants/renters and represents the interests of residents in promoting fair housing policies and fostering a sense of community.
