Heartland Humane Society helps pets find people. Call the shelter if interested in adopting, volunteering, in need of assistance with pet food, or to surrender a pet.
Provides the following services: adoption, surrender, reduced cost microchip (by appointment only) animal abuse Investigation, and volunteer services.

Foster Care/Temporary Shelter for Animals
Offers pet food to those in need depending on supplies at the time. Assistance is available once every 30 days. Certain brands of pet food are not guaranteed.
The Center offers many activities including: line dancing, exercise classes and fitness room, billiards, Wii bowling, card games, table tennis, SHIINE Medicare Part D assistance, pet food assistance, weekly blood pressure checks, nutrition program providing commodity, meals on wheels, and meals at The Center. ​Bingo is offered from 7:00pm - 9:00pm, Tuesday and Friday evenings.
The Humane Society of the Black Hills works to support the community when faced with difficult situations, to meet that need the following hardship programs are available: ​Affordable Euthanasia Services: If your pet needs to be put down, affordable euthanasia services are provided, fees range from $20.00 - $50.00 ​Animal Surrender Services: An open admission shelter which will take any animal regardless of temperament, age, or health. Animals are assessed for adoption. There is a surrender fee of $10.00 - $25.00. ​Food Assistance Program: Provides pet food for those who are struggling with the cost of food. ​Hardship Boarding: Able to assist with boarding dogs for up to two weeks for community members who are in transition.

Finds homes for animals in need in the Brookings Community. Services include animal adoption, pet food and litter bank, microchip services, and community education and involvement. All animals receive necessary medical care, spay/neuter, and vaccinations prior to adoption.

Rescues dogs and cats; pays all the expenses while they are in foster care until an adoptive home can be found. Has a pet food bank where dog or cat food can be supplied to benefit veterans, disabled, and low-income owners. Also has a spay and neuter program to benefit veterans, disabled, and low-income owners.
