The Central Registry is a computer system that stores private information about parents or other caretakers who have a court finding of child abuse or neglect or a substantiated report of child abuse or neglect found by the Department of Social Services' Division of Child Protection Services (CPS). The Central Registry is not available to the public and is not a sex offender registry. By law only certain entities can check a name against the list. Places such as schools, hospitals, and drug/alcohol facilities cannot check names against the list.
