Respite Care Program | South Dakota Department of Human Services
Helps families with temporary relief care for children or adults with special needs.
The child or adult must live with a parent or family member and meet one of the eligibility categories below. There is no income limit.
An adult or child eligible for family support waiver services is not eligible for respite services.
Eligibility Categories include: Developmental disability (child or adult); Developmental delay (birth to age 3); Serious emotional disturbance (child); Severe and persistent mental illness (adult); Chronic medical condition (child); Traumatic brain injury (child or adult); Adopted Child (with or without a disability).

Family Support Service Coordinators act as an advocate for you and your family. Services and supports include but are not limited to: service coordination, environmental accessibility adaptive equipment, vehicle modifications, companion services, supported employment, personal care, respite care, special medical adaptive equipment and supplies, nutritional supplements, specialized therapies, and recreational and social opportunities.
