A portable planetarium to discover the secrets of the seasonal constellations. Starlab gives students the tools to begin their own sky exploration. Starlab encompasses astronomy and mythology and is applicable to 1st, 2nd, 5th, and 8th grade science standards and 2nd & 6th grade history standards.

The Outdoor Campus offers several programs for youth, adults, and families including Women's Try-It Day, Fishing, Archery, Shooting, Hunting Skills, and South Dakota natural history.

Recreation Opportunities - provides a wide range of youth and adult public recreational activities. City recreation exists to provide opportunities for leisure time activities at an affordable cost, usually subsidized by public funds, which are not feasible or easily provided by the private sector. Forestry - purpose is to preserve and perpetuate one of the community's most valuable natural resource and asset - its municipal forest of trees on public property, including boulevards, parks and other city properties. The City of Brookings is responsible for the planting, care and maintenance and removal / replacement of trees on public property, including city boulevards, parks and schools. Parks Department - builds and maintains the parks in the Brookings Park system, comprising over 640 acres. The department also cooperates closely with the Brookings School District in building and maintaining joint school / park facilities. A full-time staff, assisted by seasonal employees, provides all maintenance and plays a significant role in developing and constructing new parks. Offers more than 200 miles of mapped and surveyed passages, guided cave tours provide opportunities for viewing this underground wilderness. *Tours are offered year-round; however, the off-season has limited tour times and facility hours. *Advanced reservations are available through recreation.gov. *For more information about guided cave tours, facility hours, surface trails and picnic areas, interested visitors should call the monument at (605) 673-8300 and speak with a park ranger.

Designed for people of all ages to discover and nurture their own inner creativity, to explore nature, and to focus on sustainable living. Opportunities include extended stay artist residencies for creatives in all media, space for organizational group meetings, workshops, social events, seasonal arts and nature excursions, small concerts or theatrical experiences in Main Hall or outside, recital and exhibit space in A-frame, host for photography groups, literary events, etc., and also available for groups like family reunions, weddings, and country excursions.
