The Public Works Department encompasses a handful of City services such as Parks, Streets, Solid Waste, & Recycling.

Provides recreation activities to the citizens of Vermillion through the parks and trails system, recreational facilities, meeting and event space, Bluffs Golf Course, and Prentis Park Pool including swim lessons, swim team practices and meets, and free wading pool. Programs available to all residents including adult volleyball, youth wrestling, baseball and softball, track, and tennis.

Off-Leash dog parks rules for usage are posted at each site. Each site has a picnic table, trash receptacle, and plastic bag dispenser for owners to use to pick up after the pets. City Dog Parks include: Lien Park, Spencer Park, Family Park, Kirby Dog Park, Hayward Park, and Pawsible Dog Park at Jacobson Plaza.

The Aberdeen Parks, Recreation and Forestry Department provides recreational/leisure services to the Aberdeen Community and surrounding region. This includes 12 city parks (including 3 dog parks), over 20 miles of trails, 2 softball complexes, Fossum Baseball Field Complex, Kuhnert Arboretum, 2 outdoor ice rinks and 1 indoor ice arena. Wylie Park and Storybook Land is one of the primer parks in the region. It includes 2 campgrounds, Miniature golf, go-karts, picnic facilities and bike and skate rentals. At Storybook Land families enjoy a world of imagination inspired by nursery rhymes and featuring the Land of Oz. Also enjoy a ride on the Train, Carousel, Balloon Ride and Roller Coaster. The Recreation Division provides recreational activities year round for all ages including youth ball leagues, youth & adult tennis lessons and leagues, skating lessons, open gyms, recreational skating, cross country ski lessons, and adult basketball and volleyball leagues. Many special events are offered including Family Fun Weekend, Tennis Tournaments, Storybook Land Festival, Winterfest and Holiday Celebration just to name a few. The YAPAtorium Teen Center provides many activities for teens. Other facilities include: Aberdeen Recreation and Cultural Center (ARCC) where programming in the visual arts, dance, music, and theatre occur for all ages. Other areas at the ARCC include the Civic Arena, Civic Theatre, and the ARCC Gallery. The Aberdeen Aquatic Center provides entertainment for the whole family with the lap pool, diving boards, leisure pool with multilevel play structure, 3 waterslides, and the Lazy River. Other activities include swimming lessons, water walking and adult water exercise. The Strode Center and Aberdeen Dome are facilities available for public use and provides a weight room. These facilities can be used for a daily fee, a 10 use punch card, or with a monthly membership. Lee Park Golf Course is an 18 hole public course which provides lessons and leagues. Melgaard Park Disc Golf Course is a 9 hole public course. Aberdeen Senior Center provides many programs and activities for people over 50 years of age

Recreation Opportunities - provides a wide range of youth and adult public recreational activities. City recreation exists to provide opportunities for leisure time activities at an affordable cost, usually subsidized by public funds, which are not feasible or easily provided by the private sector. Forestry - purpose is to preserve and perpetuate one of the community's most valuable natural resource and asset - its municipal forest of trees on public property, including boulevards, parks and other city properties. The City of Brookings is responsible for the planting, care and maintenance and removal / replacement of trees on public property, including city boulevards, parks and schools. Parks Department - builds and maintains the parks in the Brookings Park system, comprising over 640 acres. The department also cooperates closely with the Brookings School District in building and maintaining joint school / park facilities. A full-time staff, assisted by seasonal employees, provides all maintenance and plays a significant role in developing and constructing new parks. Licenses to register are carnivals, circus, temporary merchant license for arts festival, and temporary vendor permit for food trucks. The Harrisburg Parks, Recreation, and Forestry Department is in charge of all city parks including the dog park. These include Central Park, Ellis Larson Park, Heartland Park, Hugh Robinson Park, Knight's Crossing Park, Lake Ole, Lions Park, and Rover Range. Partners with the Outdoor Campus to offer a variety of outdoor activities/events from late April through early September and occasional winter activities.

The City of Hot Springs has 6 city parks a dog park. They are Brookside Park, Butler Park, Centennial Park, Chautauqua Park, School Street Park, and Umiker Dog Park. Also includes Kidney Springs (water fountain) and The Fall River Freedom Trail (goes from Mueller Civic Center to Chautauqua Park) Park Amenities include playground area, shelters with picnic tables, restrooms, skateboard park, tennis court, basketball court, softball field, and soccer field. Welcome Park Court is available for food truck vendors to use.
