The Parks Department is responsible for all ground and building maintenance for over 100 acres of park and recreation property. This includes Baseball, softball, soccer, and tennis facilities, City municipal park and shelters, Lion's club park and shelters, Several neighborhood parks, Sturgis fairgrounds, Barry Stadium, Other surrounding property located by Fort Meade, Bike Path, and Bear Butte Cemetery.

Provides a safe and healthy environment to the citizens of the greater Sturgis area so that they may participate in recreational and entertaining activities, including a 25 yard, 6 lane, indoor swimming pool with diving board, 72 foot waterslide, hot tub, Sauna, outdoor patio, gymnasium, indoor walking and running track, weight room, cardio room, racquetball courts, and locker rooms. The Performing Arts Theater is located within the Community Center and has a 442 seating capacity. The theater hosts special events, conventions, seminars, concerts, and plays. Meeting rooms and a kitchen are also available for rental. The Community Center also provides recreational programs including youth basketball, youth football, youth swim lessons, and adult softball.

Provides recreational/leisure services to the Aberdeen Community and surrounding region. This includes 12 city parks (including 3 dog parks), over 20 miles of trails, 2 softball complexes, Fossum Baseball Field Complex, Kuhnert Arboretum, 2 outdoor ice rinks and 1 indoor ice arena. Wylie Park and Storybook Land is one of the primer parks in the region. It includes 2 campgrounds, Miniature golf, go-karts, picnic facilities and bike and skate rentals. At Storybook Land families enjoy a world of imagination inspired by nursery rhymes and featuring the Land of Oz. Also enjoy a ride on the Train, Carousel, Balloon Ride and Roller Coaster. The Recreation Division provides recreational activities year round for all ages including youth ball leagues, youth & adult tennis lessons and leagues, skating lessons, open gyms, recreational skating, cross country ski lessons, and adult basketball and volleyball leagues. Many special events are offered including Family Fun Weekend, Tennis Tournaments, Storybook Land Festival, Winterfest and Holiday Celebration just to name a few. The YAPAtorium Teen Center provides many activities for teens. Other facilities include: Aberdeen Recreation and Cultural Center (ARCC) where programming in the visual arts, dance, music, and theatre occur for all ages. Other areas at the ARCC include the Civic Arena, Civic Theatre, and the ARCC Gallery. The Aberdeen Aquatic Center provides entertainment for the whole family with the lap pool, diving boards, leisure pool with multilevel play structure, 3 waterslides, and the Lazy River. Other activities include swimming lessons, water walking and adult water exercise. The Strode Center and Aberdeen Dome are facilities available for public use and provides a weight room. These facilities can be used for a daily fee, a 10 use punch card, or with a monthly membership. Lee Park Golf Course is an 18 hole public course which provides lessons and leagues. Melgaard Park Disc Golf Course is a 9 hole public course. Aberdeen Senior Center provides many programs and activities for people over 50 years of age

Parks and Recreation office provides tree planting information, oversight of the Auld-Brokaw Trail System, maintains a trail and parks map, and oversees park and facility rental. The Parks and Recreation department offers a recreation scholarship program for youth under 17 who live in Yankton to attend one swimming lesson and one recreation program per year dependent on class openings and financial and/or personal hardship. Summit Activities Center features an indoor pool with water slide, 2 gymnasiums, 3 multi-purpose rooms, cardiovascular equipment, multi-station weights, free weights, small indoor track, and locker facilities. Summit Activities Center outdoor facilities include 8 lighted tennis courts, an all-weather track, 2 softball fields, a walking path, and an arboretum with many different variety of trees and shrubs. Huether Family Aquatics Center is located at the intersection of 21st Street and Douglas. Offers an Olympic-sized pool, 2 3-meter high dive spring boards, 2 1-meter spring boards, 2 small water slides, and a Wading pool.

Forestry - purpose is to preserve and perpetuate one of the community's most valuable natural resource and asset - its municipal forest of trees on public property, including boulevards, parks and other city properties. The City of Brookings is responsible for the planting, care and maintenance and removal / replacement of trees on public property, including city boulevards, parks and schools. Parks Department - builds and maintains the parks in the Brookings Park system, comprising over 640 acres. The department also cooperates closely with the Brookings School District in building and maintaining joint school / park facilities. A full-time staff, assisted by seasonal employees, provides all maintenance and plays a significant role in developing and constructing new parks. Community Friendship Gardens Garden plots are available for a $34.00 fee, please call for an application and information. Garden Guidelines and Rules: All plots and surrounding areas must be kept free of weeds, trash, and litter. Plots need to be cleaned up by October 15 of each year so that tilling can be done for the following year. Don't forget to harvest all of your crops. Any fencing must be removed at the end of the season before the City does their tilling. Forestry Tree branches are to be trimmed and cut to a minimum height of thirteen and one-half (13½) feet above the street or alley level to allow ample space for the movement of city maintenance and garbage disposal equipment. All existing hedges and shrubs on the boulevard or parking strips shall be trimmed to a height of thirty inches as measured from the gutter level of the street. Trees shall be planted at a distance (30 feet) apart as determined by the Parks and Recreation Board considering the ultimate size of the variety of tree involved. Please call for a free planting permit and staking the location for boulevard trees. A free tree removal permit is issued by this office if you wish to remove trees or stumps that are located on the boulevard or in an alley area.

The Healthy Living program consists of adult activities, group fitness, personal training, and a wellness center. They include: Rails Strength & Fitness - constantly varied, functional movements executed at high intensity, Group Fitness - more than 100 classes a week that are included in membership including specialty fitness classes, InBody Consultation - Body composition assessments for those ages 12+, Personal Training - staff can create a personalized training and nutrition regimen, Wellness Center - cardio equipment and weight equipment, Rock Steady Boxing - for those with Parkinson's Disease, and Lap and Open swim pool schedule/Swim lessons.

Madison Community Center oversees the following services: ASP (After School Program) which is designed to offer kids a safe and adult supervised environment filled with physical and educational activities, Madison Parks including recreation, youth programs, ice skating rinks and Madison associations including youth baseball, Madison Aquatic Center, CC Wellness Studio, fitness, and birthday party rooms.
