Summit Activities Center features an indoor pool with water slide, 2 gymnasiums, 3 multi-purpose rooms, cardiovascular equipment, multi-station weights, free weights, small indoor track, and locker facilities. Summit Activities Center outdoor facilities include 8 lighted tennis courts, an all-weather track, 2 softball fields, a walking path, and an arboretum with many different variety of trees and shrubs. Fantle Memorial Park Pool is located at the intersection of 21st Street and Douglas. Offers an Olympic-sized pool, 2 3-meter high dive spring boards, 2 1-meter spring boards, 2 small water slides, and a Wading pool. The Parks and Recreation department offers a recreation scholarship program for youth under 17 who live in Yankton to attend one swimming lesson and one recreation program per year dependent on class openings and financial and/or personal hardship.

The Performing Arts Theater is located within the Community Center and has a 442 seating capacity. The theater hosts special events, conventions, seminars, concerts, and plays. Meeting rooms and a kitchen are also available for rental. The Community Center also provides recreational programs including youth basketball, youth football, youth swim lessons, and adult softball.

Recreation Opportunities - provides a wide range of youth and adult public recreational activities. City recreation exists to provide opportunities for leisure time activities at an affordable cost, usually subsidized by public funds, which are not feasible or easily provided by the private sector. Forestry - purpose is to preserve and perpetuate one of the community's most valuable natural resource and asset - its municipal forest of trees on public property, including boulevards, parks and other city properties. The City of Brookings is responsible for the planting, care and maintenance and removal / replacement of trees on public property, including city boulevards, parks and schools. Parks Department - builds and maintains the parks in the Brookings Park system, comprising over 640 acres. The department also cooperates closely with the Brookings School District in building and maintaining joint school / park facilities. A full-time staff, assisted by seasonal employees, provides all maintenance and plays a significant role in developing and constructing new parks.
