A comprehensive substance abuse program offering addiction prevention, treatment, and recovery support services for adolescents and adults experiencing problems with alcohol and drugs. Traditional concepts of health among many American Indian families within the Pine Ridge Tribal Lands involve the intersection of physical, mental, and spiritual wellbeing, which are all seen as inextricably linked. Therefore, ALO uses a comprehensive approach for behavioral health programming, which is guided by traditional Lakota values (ie. waca'tognaka (generosity), woohitika (courage), wowaci'ta'ka (perseverance), waoholaka (respect), wau'sila (compassion), and woksape (wisdom). -

A local non-profit, non-political coalition whose members come from all walks of life and are committed to creating and supporting a community where youth and young adults are valued and welcomed in an environment that encourages them to be drug-free and healthy without pressure to use alcohol, tobacco, and drugs.

The Tobacco Prevention Resource Center focuses on reducing disease, disability, and death related to tobacco use by preventing the initiation of tobacco use among young people, promoting quitting among youth and adults, eliminating nonsmokers' exposure to environmental tobacco smoke, and identifying and eliminating the disparities related to tobacco use and its effects among different population groups. Facilitation of tobacco prevention services are available through services such as an online website which includes tobacco resource library holdings, technical assistance for program development, tobacco resource library, and assistance to the medical and faith communities in the development of tobacco policies. ​Resources include brochures, posters, videos, display items, reference books, and program ideas. The TPRC also provides technical assistance on prevention activities to schools, professionals, community groups, parents, and youth.

The Carroll Institute adolescent program provides comprehensive behavioral health support. Offers a safe and supportive environment for students in their school to help them develop coping skills, build protective factors, assess safety, and prevent substance use. The program includes evidence based curriculums for K-12th grade in the area of substance use prevention and behavioral health; substance use screenings and assessments; threat assessments; small group sessions; individual counseling; student-led peer leader groups; school-wide awareness campaigns; and access to an addiction and prevention counselor.

The SEPRC works with others across the state to provide prevention resources, training and technical assistance through program development and training. Offers a 12-hour diversion class for individuals aged 17 - 20 years, designed for individuals who may be making high-risk choices and aim to change drinking and drug use behaviors.

The coalition carries out evidence-based environmental strategies which address substance use and other unhealthy risk-taking behaviors that impact youth within the Watertown area. It also implements Project SUCCESS, which is school based prevention programming at the middle and high schools. Provides over-the-phone coaching from trained professionals who will schedule regular follow-up calls over several weeks to offer support. Can also provide participants with free quit-tobacco products such as nicotine patches, gum, or lozenges or prescription medication. Postpartum program for those who have quit smoking during pregnancy. Providing additional relapse prevention calls and potential to receive gift card incentives. ​The Kickstart Kit is a quit guide and four weeks of patches, gum, or lozenges that can be ordered on website.

Advisors and teens teach elementary school children about the dangers of tobacco use. Research shows teens are eager to talk to younger children while this younger age group respects and listens to teens. Youth make a difference within their community on tobacco control by holding educational events, advocating, and providing resources.
