​The City of Yankton curbside collection provides residential solid waste and recycling pick-up. Christmas Trees: Christmas tree drop-off point for Yankton residents at the parking lot west of the Riverside Park baseball stadium. Christmas trees can also be taken to the Yankton Transfer Station during regular business hours. The Christmas tree drop-off point and the Transfer Station will start accepting trees beginning after December 26. A one-time residential, front curb, pick-up date will be determined in December. City Wide Cleanup: Spring cleaning opportunity, front curb pickup, for residents on the city garbage routes for tree branches, wood products, metal items, and concrete. For information on what items will not be picked up visit the city website. Household Hazardous Waste: Annual collection event accepting a variety of Household Hazardous Waste including cleaning products, household products, paint, shop, hobby, and repair supplies, and yard supplies. Rides must be scheduled at least one day in advance, by calling and leaving a message (with name and phone number) if a dispatcher is unavailable and someone will get back to you as soon as possible. Brandon Transit is owned by city of Brandon and is managed by ROCS (Rural Office of Community Services).

The City of Sioux Falls has two leaf and branch drop-off sites to assist with fall and spring cleanup. Fall leaf and small branch drop: Saturday, September 20, 2025 - Sunday, November 30, 2025 - West Side of Sioux Falls: - 100 N. Lyon Boulevard (East side of Lyon Boulevard, across from Billion Chevrolet). Access is available: From W. 12th Street to N. Lyon Boulevard From W. Madison Street to N. Lyon Boulevard - East Side of Sioux Falls: - 1015 E. Chambers Street: (West of the Household Hazardous Waste Facility). Access is available:From N. Cliff Avenue to Chambers Street. The driveway just west of the Household Hazardous Waste Facility will be the only access point. The cost is free for cars, pickups, full-size SUVs, vans, or two-wheel trailers. Lawn service companies, and commercial businesses will not be accepted at the temporary drop-off site and must go directly to the Sioux Falls Regional Sanitary Landfill. Branches must be placed in a pile separate from leaves. Leaves must be removed from plastic bags. All loads must be tarped or in an enclosed vehicle. Responsible for the collection and treatment of wastewater generated by residential, commercial, and industrial dischargers before final discharge to the Big Sioux River according to the conditions of the city's SDDENR Surface Water Discharge Permit. The Wastewater Department consists of the collections, operations, laboratory, and industrial pretreatment subdivisions, which operate and maintain the wastewater treatment facility and the sanitary sewer collection system.

Sioux Falls has six ice rinks around the city. Each ice rink has a warming house, limited concessions, vending and skate rentals available. Hours may change, subject to weather. Hours of operation are for the warming house. Those who have their own skates are welcome to skate during normal park hours. **Parents of small children should be especially aware of weather conditions and warming house hours before leaving children at the outdoor rinks when weather conditions are extreme. Children ages 6 and under must be accompanied by someone 16 years of age or older. Locations are: Campus Park Frank Olson Park Jacobson Plaza, The Skate Ribbon and Warming House McKennan Park Memorial Park Sherman Park Tuthill Park Hours of Operation: Closed for the season - Watch for details, opening winter 2025. Sioux Falls has two Hockey Rinks, both are 200' x 85' regulation-size ice rinks with the light levels up to outdoor hockey lighting standards. City Administrator - is the funnel for information between the City Council, City Staff, and State and Federal agencies. The City Administrator assists in the preparation of the annual City budget, recommends policy directions to the City Council, oversees long range planning, directing the activities of city departments and carries out all other duties as prescribed. Finance Office is responsible for managing the fiscal affairs of the City. This includes monitoring accounting services, cash and asset management, payroll, financial reporting and utility billing. City utilities include water, sewer and garbage collection services. Public Works department oversees the maintenance of the streets, alleys, storm sewer, water and sewer systems, rubble site and airport. Planning & Zoning Committee is responsible for preparing and maintaining the City's Comprehensive Plan, administering and enforcing zoning and subdivision regulations, enforcing building codes, and carrying out ordinances for permits and inspection. Building Committee which is comprised of three council members is designated as the building inspector for the City. Together, they review permits and make recommendation to the Planning and Zoning Commission. Parks and Recreation include a swimming pool that is open during the summer months. Area parks are maintained by local organizations.

Sioux Falls Parks and Recreation operates the Midco® Aquatic Center and eight other facilities, including three family aquatic centers, two neighborhood aquatic facilities, three spray parks, and two wading pools. Open swim at aquatic facilities is 1:00pm - 5:00pm and 6:30pm - 8:00pm daily. Children 6 years old and younger must be supervised by someone at least 16. The ratio of children 6 and younger must not exceed five per adult. Spray parks are open 11:00am - 8:00pm. Swim passes are available to buy or renew. Swim passes may be used at any of the following aquatic facilities when open: Drake Springs Family Aquatic Center, daily admission or swim pass Frank Olson Pool, daily admission or swim pass Hayward Park Splash Pad, free Kuehn Park Pool, daily admission or swim pass Laurel Oak Family Aquatic Center, daily admission or swim pass Midco® Aquatic Center, daily admission or swim pass McKennan Park Wading Pool, free Pioneer Spray Park, free T. Denny Sanford Splash Pad, free Terrace Park Family Aquatic Center, daily admission or swim pass There are programming and events happening at each pool during the summer, find dates and locations at Siouxfalls.gov/guide. Swimming lessons are available indoor year-round at the Midco Aquatic Center. Outdoor lessons are available during the summer at various outdoor pool locations. Registration is online. Courses are divided into six levels, starting with Level 1 for children aged 5 and older who are comfortable standing in three feet of water without support. Please note that successful demonstration of skills from the preceding level is a prerequisite for all levels except Level 1.

Sioux Falls Parks and Recreation offers a variety of admission options for purchasing swim passes, whether you need a one-day pass or a swim pass for an entire year. Renewing a swim pass: Keep your key fobs from year to year, as key fobs can be renewed each year. Replacements of a lost key fob are available for $3.00 at the Midco Aquatic Center. Online renewal available online (for full price passes). To purchase a new season swim pass: Create an online account OR Visit the Midco Aquatic Center or an open outdoor aquatic facility to have photos taken of immediate family members for key fobs. Free or reduced priced swim passes: Summer season (May - August) are available for qualified families (immediate family members living in the same household, including youth age 18 and younger, stepchildren or foster children. Only two people over the age of 18 in the household can be on the swim pass) who are residents of Sioux Falls currently enrolled i the SNAP program (food stamps). If you qualify for a reduced or free pass, you must visit the Midco Aquatic Center or outdoor aquatic facilities and provide qualifying documentation, which includes: Photo ID Dakota EBT card (food stamp card) Proof of residence/physical address (must contain your name and current address). Examples include utility bill, credit card statement, pay stub/earnings statement, rent receipt, phone bill, tax document, transcript from an accredited school, bank statement, or any other certified mail. If a Sioux Falls resident presents an EBT or Medicaid card, their immediate family can get in for $1.00/person (only available during the months of September - May).
Provides the following services: ​ ​Rental Rehabilitation Program - Up to $30,000 per rental unit; $100,000 maximum per project, depending on equity. Funds may be used to replace roofs, siding, insulation, exterior painting or installing energy efficient windows and doors. Funding may also be used for interior updates. ​Single Family Housing Rehabilitation Program - provides financial and technical assistance for housing rehabilitation needs including but not limited to roofs, doors, stairs, painting, insulation, handicap accessibility, windows, electrical, plumbing and furnace replacements. Maintenance repairs are not included in this program. ​Emergency Mobile Home Repair Program - provides up to $5,000 to help pay for emergency repairs. Maintenance repairs are not included in this program. ​Neighborhood Revitalization Program - designed to remove dilapidated housing structures which are unsafe, and replace with new affordable housing options. New, owner-occupied residential structures constructed and eligible for income qualified households to purchase. Loan payments are only required when the home is sold or is no longer the primary residence.

Off-Leash dog parks rules for usage are posted at each site. Each site has a picnic table, trash receptacle, and plastic bag dispenser for owners to use to pick up after the pets. City Dog Parks include: Lien Park, Spencer Park, Family Park, Kirby Dog Park, Hayward Park, and Pawsible Dog Park at Jacobson Plaza.
Primary duties include issuing building permits and conducting building inspections, enforcement of the City's Sign Code and issuing sign permits, addressing citizen concerns regarding animals, grass/weeds, nuisances, and snow removal, registration of rental dwelling units and housing inspections, enforcement of the City's Property Maintenance Code, animal control and management of the City's animal shelter, enforcement of grass, weed, and sidewalk snow removal ordinance, and pet licensing.

​Huron Community Campus is a partnership campus designed and implemented to replace the lost opportunity of post secondary education with the closing of Si Tanka/Huron University in 2005. This educational model is defined as a physical location where two or more institutions collaborate to deliver academic programs and student services.
