Driving part of the test is still given via English as the spoken language.

The office records deeds, mortgages, assignments & addendums to mortgages, satisfactions, easements, UCC's, affidavits, plats, military discharges, powers of attorney, miscellaneous records, etc. The office files Federal Tax Liens, SD Sales Tax Liens, Reemployment Assistance Compensation Liens, UCC's, Fictitious Business Name Registrations, Mechanic's Liens, Locations Notices, etc. The office issues Marriage Licenses, Certified copies of Birth, Death and Marriage Certificates, Military Discharges, and certified copies of recorded documents, credit searches on Federal Tax Liens, Sales Tax Liens and Unemployment Tax Liens. The office maintains files of birth, death, marriage, military discharges, burial records, Federal Tax Liens, Sales Tax Liens, and Reemployment Assistance Compensation Liens. The Register of Deeds office works closely with the public, as well as other governmental municipalities, planning and zoning offices, land title companies, banks and other financial institutions, land surveyors, real estate businesses; and various state departments and agencies, including, but not limited to, the South Dakota Secretary of State's office, the South Dakota Department of Health, the South Dakota Department of Revenue, and the South Dakota Department of Transportation.

Safe Home is a Housing First model program that involves the program components of case management, groups, monitoring, and community. It provides dignified, affordable housing and supportive services to individuals experiencing long term homelessness and alcohol dependence. It is an apartment building and is not a temporary or emergency shelter. Referrals may be made by anyone (self, friend, family, professionals).

Services provided include coordinating all agencies within the jurisdiction to include public, private, and non-governmental organizations to ensure the protection of life and property in the event of threatened or actual natural disaster, terrorism, technological, or man-made events. Responsibilities includes developing and maintaining the county plans for reacting to emergencies; trains other agencies to respond to emergencies; during an actual emergency, the director coordinates the action and response. Accepts residential household waste, electronics for recycling, and grass/leaves waste (no branches). All loads to the landfill must be covered and secured per state and county regulations. Different material types are to placed in designated places at the landfill.

Provides safe, secure housing of inmates to provide continued public safety. Provides visitation services for inmates to maintain contact with family and friends through regular visits (see website for visitation guidelines).

The auditor is the keeper of county records and acts as a bookkeeper for county business. Maintains each county office's budget and ensures each office expenditure is provided for in the county budget. Figures real estate and mobile home taxes. It should be noted that the auditor does not appraise property value, but rather figures the property appraisal into a tax levy, which is forwarded to the county treasurer for collection. Responsible for notifying the public of up-coming special or general elections; supervising the election and registering voters. Administers payment assistance for medical services provided to people unable to pay for their treatment. This is an option of last resort, and individuals must seek assistance through other means first. Responsible for commissioners proceedings, agendas, and records, accounting records, revenue, and expense reports, voter registration and election, businesses applications for beer and liquor licenses, figures real estate and mobile home taxes, handles county bid lettings, manages medical indigent, county payroll and employee drug and alcohol testing programs, and the Auditor and Treasurer work in conjunction to pay county bills. This office also oversees one time, last resort/emergency financial assistance in the form of an interest-free loan for residents who need help with burial expenses, medical indigent claims, prescription payment assistance, rent payment assistance (to prevent eviction), and utility payment assistance for current and past due bills regarding water, lights, heating, phone, and trash.
