The foundation is committed to ensuring Black Hills Works continues to enrich the lives of people with disabilities now and into the future.

Identifies the overall food needs and challenges that exist within Rapid City and develop community-wide solutions to meet those needs. The Black Hills Area Community Foundation serves as both a financial supporter and community collaborator for this initiative, working directly with non-profits to ensure people of all ages have access to nutritious food options.

Manages endowments, donor advised funds and scholarships. Works with donors and nonprofit organizations to identify the areas of greatest need in the community, assists donors to reach their philanthropic goals, and raises and distributes charitable funds that have a positive impact for the people in the Black Hills.

The Sioux Falls Public Schools Education Foundation administers the Student Success Fund. School-based social workers receive funds to purchase basic needs for students in crisis. Through this fund, the Education Foundation provides emergency food assistance, personal hygiene products, winter gear, school supplies, and other products to students in need. Serves students at all 38 sites in the Sioux Falls School District through this program.

​ SFACF invests and grows endowments that are used to make grants to important social, cultural and educational initiatives, provide scholarships to deserving young people, and support the activities of over 200 local nonprofits. Grants from the Community Fund are available to organizations in the Sioux Falls area seeking support for new ways to address community needs, expand successful programming, or build capacity. Grants are also considered for agencies undergoing a unique financial crisis or conducting community-wide studies. Scholarship Program - For those wrapping up a general equivalency diploma, graduating from high school, or working toward a graduate degree, SFACF offers a wide variety of competitive scholarship awards to help people achieve their goals. Applications are available annually on December 15. Most are due March 15.

South Dakota Fund Grants oversee an unrestricted fund that makes grants in support of economic development, human services, health, education, culture and financial literacy programs. In addition to the traditional focus areas in 2026, three new initiatives are also available. Child Well-being, Housing and Workforce Development.
