Sioux Falls Area Community Foundation (SFACF) serves the communities of Minnehaha, Lincoln, Turner, and McCook counties. It helps people who want to do something good for the Sioux Falls area do it. SFACF invests and grows endowments that are used to make grants to important social, cultural and educational initiatives, provide scholarships to deserving young people, and support the activities of over 200 local nonprofits. Our most visionary fund, grants from the Community Fund are available to organizations in the Sioux Falls area seeking support for new ways to address community needs, expand successful programming, or build capacity. Grants are also considered for agencies undergoing a unique financial crisis or conducting community-wide studies.

Existing SDCF grant opportunities: South Dakota Fund Grants - unrestricted fund that makes grants in support of economic development, human services, health, education, culture and financial literacy programs. Beyond Idea Grants - offered in partnership with the Bush Foundation, these grants are designed to support community-based problem solving in South Dakota Local CSA Grants - A CSA (community savings account) allows a community to invest and grow its endowment with the help of the SDCF. Nonprofit Savings Account - Partners with organizations to build endowment funds. Fairy Godmother's Fund - The fund helps individuals in South Dakota address immediate, short-term, critical needs. No self-referrals. Bush Prize: South Dakota - celebrates organizations that are highly valued within their communities and have track record of transformational impact through creative solutions. The Bush Prize: South Dakota program identifies and honors extraordinary organizations that consistently engage and lead their community toward creative solutions, equips/provides them with flexible support to keep doing that work, and supports them to amplify their story to inspire others. Bush Prize: South Dakota grants are flexible and can be used to build up reserves or test an organization's next big idea or whatever else would best support an organization's ongoing good work. Beginning in 2025, two organizations will each receive a grant of $250,000. Instructions for the online application process can be found on the South Dakota Community Foundation's web site. The Sioux Falls Public Schools Education Foundation administers the Student Success Fund. School-based social workers receive funds to purchase basic needs for students in crisis. Through this fund, the Education Foundation provides emergency food assistance, personal hygiene products, winter gear, school supplies, and other products to students in need. Serves students at all 38 sites in the Sioux Falls School District through this program.

Scholarship Program - For those wrapping up a general equivalency diploma, graduating from high school, or working toward a graduate degree, SFACF offers a wide variety of competitive scholarship awards to help people achieve their goals. Applications are available annually on December 15. Most are due March 15.
