Traffic is responsible for the installation, operation, and maintenance of the city's traffic signal system, traffic control signs, and all pavement markings. Contact this division to report: Missing or damaged sign or traffic light, A dangerous intersection, Pedestrian hazards or other traffic hazards, A burned-out street light, please supply the yellow tag number on the affected pole if possible; Issues with traffic signals and traffic signs, Issues with weather warning sirens, Issues with streetlights, Issues with work zone traffic control, Issues with parking on city streets and in city owned parking lots, and Traffic and pedestrians safety concerns.

Purpose: Provides safe, reliable drinking water, wastewater treatment, drainage, solid waste disposal, public transit, and transportation systems. - Rapid Transit Division Provides the general public with safe, reliable and affordable public transportation. - Solid Waste Division Provides for the orderly, efficient and safe collection, recycling and disposal of waste. - Street Division Operates and maintains a 386 mile transportation system. Maintains over 130 miles of storm sewer system. Provides vehicle and equipment maintenance and repair on approximately 600 units for various City departments. The Public Works Department consists of several entities such as: Streets and Buildings: snow removal, street sweeping, street lighting, traffic control devices, GIS, city building and equipment maintenance Wastewater: wastewater treatment, storm water drainage, irrigation, and sewer line maintenance Sanitation: residential and commercial garbage service, restricted use rubble site, recycling program, curbside pick up service Special events: city-wide clean up, traffic control, and engineering and contract administration for capital and public improvements Rubble Site: See the Authorized Solid Waste page for information about what items can be taken to the Rubble Site. Many items can be taken to the Rubble Site free of charge (within a standard pickup truck-sized load) with a copy of a current Sturgis utility bill (see the Sanitation Policy for information); including batteries, tires (for a fee), leaves, branches, Christmas trees, etc. Please refer to the Fee Schedule for more details and pricing.
