Oversees the following divisions of the City of Yankton: Traffic Control, Streets, Engineering and the Airport. Constructs and maintains surface transportation systems that support economic viability, promotes safe travel, and add esthetically to the community. These divisions are responsible for the upkeep and maintenance of streets and traffic control measures as well as maintaining the Precision Approach Path Indicator system for the Chan Gurney Airport. The Engineering Department is responsible for the design, review, and managing infrastructure projects, review and approve plats and subdivision, planning and zoning, development and revision of City maps, and flood plain boundaries.

The Public Works Department is dedicated to maintaining and enhancing the street system, wastewater and storm water collection systems, water distribution system, and public buildings used for city business and for tourism.

Oversees the following divisions of the City of Aberdeen: Street Maintenance, Solid Waste, Traffic Control, Utilities, the Water Treatment Plant, and the Water Reclamation Facility. These divisions are responsible for the maintenance and improvement of roads and alleys, snow removal, solid waste collection, contracted recycling, traffic control measures, the maintenance of all water main, sewer main, storm sewer, and drainage ways, treatment and conveyance of drinking water, and the conveyance, treatment, and discharge of waste water.

Canton City Hall houses various city departments, including: Finance Department (assists with budget, utility payments, elections, and business and contractor licensing), Mayor and City Commissioners, utilities (water and sewer), Public Works (assists with government buildings, streets, street lights & traffic signals, snow removal, street cleaning, solid waste and public health), Parks and Recreation, Planning and Zoning, and City Shop.

Purpose: Provides safe, reliable drinking water, wastewater treatment, drainage, solid waste disposal, and transportation systems. - Solid Waste Division Provides for the orderly, efficient and safe collection, recycling and disposal of waste. - Street Division Operates and maintains a 386 mile transportation system. Maintains over 130 miles of storm sewer system. Provides vehicle and equipment maintenance and repair on approximately 600 units for various City departments. The Public Works Department consists of several entities such as: Streets and Buildings: snow removal, street sweeping, street lighting, traffic control devices, GIS, city building and equipment maintenance Wastewater: wastewater treatment, storm water drainage, irrigation, and sewer line maintenance Sanitation: residential and commercial garbage service, restricted use rubble site, recycling program, curbside pick up service Special events: city-wide clean up, traffic control, and engineering and contract administration for capital and public improvements Rubble Site: See the Authorized Solid Waste page for information about what items can be taken to the Rubble Site. Many items can be taken to the Rubble Site free of charge (within a standard pickup truck-sized load) with a copy of a current Sturgis utility bill (see the Sanitation Policy for information); including batteries, tires (for a fee), leaves, branches, Christmas trees, etc. Please refer to the Fee Schedule for more details and pricing. Focuses on developing plans and specifications for capital improvement projects, building construction, drainage, and transportation systems. Specifically oversees bid postings, board of appeals, building permits, curb cuts/sidewalks, excavation permits, grading permits, storm drainage, street projects, and traffic signals.

Traffic is responsible for the installation, operation, and maintenance of the city's traffic signal system, traffic control signs, and all pavement markings. Contact this division to report: Missing or damaged sign or traffic light, A dangerous intersection, Pedestrian hazards or other traffic hazards, A burned-out street light, please supply the yellow tag number on the affected pole if possible; Issues with traffic signals and traffic signs, Issues with weather warning sirens, Issues with streetlights, Issues with work zone traffic control, Issues with parking on city streets and in city owned parking lots, and Traffic and pedestrians safety concerns.

Oversees general questions relating to business of the city, including planning and zoning, Water and Sewer Utility Billing, Police Department, Fire Department, Parks and Recreation, Peddler permit, Snow Alerts, Maintenance Department, and Street Light Outages.

Responsible for the installation, operation, and maintenance of the City's traffic signal system, traffic control, fiber optics, guidance signs, and all pavement markings.
