Oversees general questions relating to business of the city, including planning and zoning, Water and Sewer Utility Billing, Police Department, Fire Department, Parks and Recreation, Peddler permit, Snow Alerts, Maintenance Department, and Street Light Outages.

Traffic is responsible for the installation, operation, and maintenance of the city's traffic signal system, traffic control signs, and all pavement markings. City Hall is the location for the following offices: Mayor's Office, Public works (Utility Service Providers (water and sewer only), Street Lights/Street Signs, Traffic Signals/Traffic Signs, Snow Clearance/Street Salting, Street/Highway Traffic Control, Trash/Garbage Pickup and Residential Recycling Programs, Wastewater (Sewer) Collection/Processing), Planning and Zoning (Building Permits, City Planning Offices, Zoning), Utility billing (water and garbage), Parking passes for City of Deadwood, and City Commission meetings.

Oversees the following divisions of the City of Yankton: Traffic Control, Streets, Engineering and the Airport. Constructs and maintains surface transportation systems that support economic viability, promotes safe travel, and add esthetically to the community. These divisions are responsible for the upkeep and maintenance of streets and traffic control measures as well as maintaining the Precision Approach Path Indicator system for the Chan Gurney Airport. The Engineering Department is responsible for the design, review, and managing infrastructure projects, review and approve plats and subdivision, planning and zoning, development and revision of City maps, and flood plain boundaries.

The Public Works Department consists of several entities such as: Streets and Buildings: snow removal, street sweeping, street lighting, traffic control devices, GIS, city building and equipment maintenance Wastewater: wastewater treatment, storm water drainage, irrigation, and sewer line maintenance Sanitation: residential and commercial garbage service, restricted use rubble site, recycling program, curbside pick up service Special events: city-wide clean up, traffic control, and engineering and contract administration for capital and public improvements Rubble Site: See the Authorized Solid Waste page for information about what items can be taken to the Rubble Site. Focuses on developing plans and specifications for capital improvement projects, building construction, drainage, and transportation systems. Specifically oversees bid postings, board of appeals, building permits, curb cuts/sidewalks, excavation permits, grading permits, storm drainage, street projects, and traffic signals.

Oversees the following divisions of the City of Aberdeen: Street Maintenance, Solid Waste, Traffic Control, Utilities, the Water Treatment Plant, and the Water Reclamation Facility. These divisions are responsible for the maintenance and improvement of roads and alleys, snow removal, solid waste collection, contracted recycling, traffic control measures, the maintenance of all water main, sewer main, storm sewer, and drainage ways, treatment and conveyance of drinking water, and the conveyance, treatment, and discharge of waste water.

Responsible for the installation, operation, and maintenance of the City's traffic signal system, traffic control, fiber optics, guidance signs, and all pavement markings.
