Utilities Department oversees street construction and repair, general city ground maintenance, perform snow and ice control procedures, maintains the storm drainage systems, maintenance and repair of equipment and facilities in the water system and sewage collection system, water and sewer lines, maintains and installs water meters and fire hydrants, and maintains the City lagoons.

The Street Division is responsible for over 300 lane miles. The division continuously evaluates city streets, equipment, materials, and personnel in order to provide a safe network of streets, traffic control systems, and mosquito abatement. The division also implements stormwater maintenance programs and responds to citizens' requests and concerns, while operating in a safe, efficient, and cost-effective manner.

The Public Works Department is responsible for maintenance of streets and parks, maintenance and operation of the water and wastewater utilities, and operation of the City rubble site. Street Department: Responsible for 35 miles of City streets and alleyways. Also performs street sign maintenance, street crosswalk marking, clean-up after storms, and many other tasks that require immediate attention. Parks Department: Maintains 220 acres of green space within the City including baseball and softball fields. Water Department: Operates two elevated water towers as part of it's water distribution system. Wastewater Department: Utilizes a Sequence Batch Reactor system for wastewater treatment. The wastewater collection system utilizes six lift stations to move wastewater to the gravity flow sewer mains and to the lagoons for treatment.

Highway Department is responsible for county roads and bridge maintenance. Other responsibilities include road signs, snow removal, and protecting the driving public from flood waters and hazards in the road.

City of Sioux Falls App is an app that offers the public the ability to request service for numerous needs. Users can upload a photo from their mobile device and attach GPS coordinates with their submission along with a brief message. A City employee will reach out when the issue is scheduled for repair and/or has been resolved. Community is also built into the app as neighbors can see issues submitted by other users in their neighborhood. The app is available for free for Apple and Android devices. The Great Plains Regional office is responsible for the direction and oversight of Bureau responsibilities and activities in South Dakota, North Dakota, and Nebraska. The Office of the Regional Director provides program direction and supervision to 12 Agencies encompassing 16 federally recognized Tribes.
