Public Works Department | City of Sturgis
The Public Works Department consists of several entities such as:
Streets and Buildings: snow removal, street sweeping, street lighting, traffic control devices, GIS, city building and equipment maintenance
Wastewater: wastewater treatment, storm water drainage, irrigation, and sewer line maintenance
Sanitation: residential and commercial garbage service, restricted use rubble site, recycling program, curbside pick up service
Special events: city-wide clean up, traffic control, and engineering and contract administration for capital and public improvements
Rubble Site: See the Authorized Solid Waste page for information about what items can be taken to the Rubble Site. Many items can be taken to the Rubble Site free of charge (within a standard pickup truck-sized load) with a copy of a current Sturgis utility bill (see the Sanitation Policy for information); including batteries, tires (for a fee), leaves, branches, Christmas trees, etc. Please refer to the Fee Schedule for more details and pricing. The City of Sturgis Rubble Site is classified as restricted use. Certain items may not be accepted at a restricted-use rubble site. Please see the Unauthorized Solid Waste page for more details.

Household Hazardous Waste Disposal | City of Sioux Falls Public Works Department
Free household hazardous waste drop-off for residents; no business waste will be accepted.
The following household products are recommended for disposal at the Household Hazardous Waste Facility.
Automotive used motor oil, auto batteries, transmission fluid, brake fluid, antifreeze, gasoline and other fuels, degreaser, carburetor cleaner, and windshield washer fluid
Lawn and Garden weed killer, insect killer, roach poison, rodent bait, bug spray, fertilizer with weed killer, fertilizer, pool chemicals, and lighter fluid
Home Improvement cooking oil, latex or oil-based paint, stain, varnish, lacquer, paint thinner, turpentine, furniture stripper, paint remover, wood preservatives, roofing tar, driveway sealer, glue with solvents, water-based glue, putty, grout, caulk, glaze, spackle, and concrete cleaner
Household Items drain and oven cleaner, toilet cleaner, spot remover, aerosol products, rubbing alcohol, disinfectant, cleaner with bleach, cleaner with ammonia, polish with solvents, glass cleaner, mothballs, cosmetics, nail polish and remover, and all batteries
Recycling containers available for small to medium sized public events. To reserve recycling bins for your event, please call (605) 367-8187, at least one week prior to your event.
Event coordinators will still be responsible for waste and recycling collection both during and after their event, as well as the transportation of the recycling containers to and from the Household Hazardous Waste Facility.
Free household hazardous waste drop-off for residents; no business waste will be accepted.

Solid Waste Division | City of Rapid City
The landfill is located on 450 acres and has operated at this location since 1960. On an average day the landfill receives 450-500 tons of non-hazardous solid waste. In addition to household waste, the landfill receives construction and demolition debris, non-hazardous special wastes, and non-infectious medical waste for disposal. A Subtitle D landfill which can accept anything considered non-hazardous or liquid.
Garbage and Waste:
Accepts all garbage and waste, except for:
liquids like non solidified paints, stains, week killers, oil etc.
also can not accept medical waste or anything considered hazardous (ie. anything labeled Dangerous, Combustible, Caution, Flammable etc.) Examples include; antifreeze, fire extinguishers, gas, water/oil mixtures, herbicides, fertilizers, mag-water, full aerosol cans, etc.
Electronics:
All electronics are directed to Black Hills Eco-Works for recycling. For current fees, contact Black Hills Eco-Works. Rapid City Landfill does have an Eco-Works drop-off site on the citizen campus for computers, laptops, tables, and cell phones for no fee.

Place items in city issued blue recycling bins. Glass, Aluminum, Steel, & Plastic (#1 & 2)
Rapid City Sharps Disposal - Following disposal guidelines listed on the website. Drop off locations include:
Public Safety Building (300 Kansas City Street) 7:00am - 6:00pm, Monday - Friday
City Hall (300 6th Street) 8:00am - 4:00pm, Monday - Friday
Landfill Education Center (5165 S. Hwy 79) 7:00am - 3:45pm, Monday - Friday
Yard waste and branches:
Accepted at the Rapid City Landfill at no charge (residents and businesses), 7:00am - 3:45pm, Monday - Friday
Christmas Tree Remote Disposal sites:
- Open December 26 - January 31. Please bring Christmas trees without plastic bags, ornaments, and lights. Locations include:

- Regular household alkaline non-rechargeable batteries (size AAA, AA,C, D etc.) can be placed in garbage. If it is rechargeable it is recyclable.
