The Watertown Regional Landfill accepts and disposes of municipal solid waste. It is located three miles south and one mile east from the junction of Highways 212 and 81. The landfill is closed Sundays and holidays. Provides recycling, yard waste disposal, compost, white goods, Christmas Tree Recycling, and Household Hazardous Waste disposal. Individuals from surrounding counties should call to learn more about rates.

Responsible for collection and disposal of garbage and yard waste. The Huron Municipal Transfer Station road is located ¼ mile east of the James River Bridge on 3rd Street. Turn south on the gravel ¼ mile and east ½ mile. Loads which contain loose material must be tarped and tied. All loads brought to the transfer station are subject to inspections to screen out prohibited materials Rubble Site (1901 9th Street S.E.) services: Residences may access the site one a month for free (with a water utility bill and ID). Items not included are; tires, Freon compressors, entire buildings, household garbage, microwaves, televisions, computer monitors, electronics, vacuum cleaners, and any other items as required by state law. Garbage must be bagged and placed inside the brown container so that the lid is closed. Overfilled containers WILL NOT be picked up, please call if you are in need of additional containers. The City of Flandreau offers a Yard Waste site for city residents and non-city residents for use. Materials accepted include grass clippings, leaves, garden vines, stalks, trees, tree branches, scrap lumber, and untreated wood. All materials must be separated into category.

Individuals can contact the Finance Office with questions related to city administration, public utilities, parks and recreation, and more. The Mayor and City Council are responsible for passing new city ordinances. The Finance Office is responsible for managing fiscal affairs. Responsibilities vary by jurisdiction but generally include budget development and monitoring, accounting services, cash and asset management, payroll, contract administration, grants management and financial reporting. The office also assists with building permit applications. ​The City of Armour also has a rubble site that residents may utilize. This is open from 6:00pm to 8:00pm on Tuesdays and 9:00am to 4:00pm on Saturdays in the Spring and Summer. In the fall and winter, use of the rubble site is by appointment only. All items must be sorted. Household garbage and plastic bags are not accepted. Do not enter the rubble site if a city employee is not present. Call for information to find out location or for disposal during off hours (which includes an additional $20.00 charge) Accepted items: Cement, asphalt, and steel can be placed in the designated piles. Trees and unpainted wood can be placed on the burn pile. Grass clippings, leaves, compost, and garden waste can be dumped in the designated area. Asphalt shingles, plaster, drywall, painted and stained wood, and furniture can be placed in the dumpster.

The Dell Rapids Rubble Site is licensed by the State of South Dakota. It is a restricted use site and is only available to individuals that reside in the City of Dell Rapids. Items accepted are trees, branches, grass, yard and garden waste, leaves, untreated wood, construction and demolition debris, sheet rock, plaster, concrete, carpet, furniture, mattresses, and large household appliances.

Accepts items that can be deposited at the rubble site. Items that are accepted: construction and demolition debris, trees and untreated wood, waste tires, white goods/metals such as refrigerators, washers, dryers, freezers, stoves, water heaters, and other recyclable scrap metals, yard waste, and other waste such as furniture. Items that are NOT accepted: hazardous waste such as waste oil, solvents, ash, etc., pesticide containers, regulated asbestos-containing materials, lead-acid batteries, municipal solid waste and household garbage, liquid waste such as tar, contaminated water, used motor oil, etc., treated wood, cardboard, plastic, Styrofoam, packaging materials, sealants, dead animals, soil contaminated with fuels or pesticides, and electronic wastes. ​The City of Yankton curbside collection provides residential solid waste and recycling pick-up. Christmas Trees: Christmas tree drop-off point for Yankton residents at the parking lot west of the Riverside Park baseball stadium. Christmas trees can also be taken to the Yankton Transfer Station during regular business hours. The Christmas tree drop-off point and the Transfer Station will start accepting trees beginning after December 26. A one-time residential, front curb, pick-up date will be determined in December. The Finance Office is responsible for Accounts payable and receivable, The official records of the city, City commission minutes and agendas, Examining and analyzing accounting records, Preparing financial reports concerning the city, Accident insurance claims, City related election information (Mayor and City Commissioners, not primary or general elections), Voter registration cards are available which will then be sent to the County Auditor's Office. Also responsible for Special assessments, Water, sewer, and garbage hookup, billing, and service requests, Alcoholic beverage licenses, Digging and excavation permits, Bike registration, and Transient merchant (business) licenses. All city residents are welcome to the city compost site, absolutely no household garbage is permitted, just branches and leaves (removed from bags).

The City of Edgemont has a Rubble site for yard waste. Acceptable items include concrete, tree branches, leaves, and yard clippings. Any residents bringing yard waste in plastic bags must empty them and take the bags with you.

Sanitary landfills, dump sites, and garbage dumps in Pukwana are regulated by both the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and by South Dakota state environmental departments. Permitting rules determine the Tri-County Landfill design, operations, and allowable waste streams offered to county residents.
