Assists with rent assistance for eviction notices, utility assistance for disconnect notices, hotel stays (does not provide a homeless shelter), gasoline or bus pass for stranded motorists or for medical reasons, assistance after a disaster (i.e. house fire, flood, etc.), and prescription assistance for qualifying medications. Rapid assistance is deployed when evacuation is required ahead of an arriving storm or ordered due to a critical incident event. Post disaster services are also available for recovery of food, uniforms and family needs, temporary lodging, and insurance deductibles.

Services may include help with FEMA support, such as applications/appeals or identifying and gathering relevant documentation; help with insurance claims for doctor and hospital bills, loss of property, loss of life, etc.; drafting of new wills, powers of attorney and other legal papers lost in the disaster; assistance with home repair contracts and contractors; counseling and advice about landlord/tenant matters; and help with consumer protection matters, remedies, and procedures.

Davison County Emergency Management assists citizens in need, from a minor incident such as a fuel spill up to a catastrophic disaster. Educating the public through awareness is key, such as severe weather awareness training, testing outdoor warning sirens, and local tornado and fire drills. Emergency Management organizes the Local Emergency Planning Committee (LEPC). The main purpose of the LEPC is to bring representatives together from various government, private, and non-profit agencies on a monthly basis; in an effort to address possible emergency situations. It is also an opportunity to form professional relationships among agencies to increase cooperation, coordination, and interactions that will be necessary during major incidents. The Davison County Office of Emergency Management is responsible for the coordination and administration of the James Valley Critical Incident Stress Management Team (CISM). CISM will assist participants in understanding the thoughts, emotions and behaviors that occurred during and after a major incident. Also, coordinates the Davison County Search & Rescue Team searches for and provides aid to people who are in distress or imminent danger. The Team assists local law enforcement with traffic control during planned events or emergency situations, assists as Severe Weather spotters, searches for lost persons, and supports other emergency response personnel and agencies in the Davison County area.

Lutheran Social Services of South Dakota networks closely with Lutheran Disaster Response and state, local and other faith-based disaster relief programs when disaster occurs in South Dakota. When a natural or economic disaster occurs, LSS is available to assist individuals, families, congregations and communities through their difficult times and work toward long-term recovery. Examples of situations where LSS has been involved include severe storm damage, tornados, flooding, forest fires and drought. LSS staff throughout the state with training and experience in Critical Incident Stress Management can mobilize quickly to offer counseling and case management when disaster strikes.
