Lutheran Social Services of South Dakota networks closely with Lutheran Disaster Response and state, local and other faith-based disaster relief programs when disaster occurs in South Dakota. When a natural or economic disaster occurs, LSS is available to assist individuals, families, congregations and communities through their difficult times and work toward long-term recovery. Examples of situations where LSS has been involved include severe storm damage, tornados, flooding, forest fires and drought. LSS staff throughout the state with training and experience in Critical Incident Stress Management can mobilize quickly to offer counseling and case management when disaster strikes. The Disaster Distress Helpline is a hotline dedicated to providing year-round disaster crisis counseling. This crisis support service is for anyone experiencing emotional distress related to disasters such as: tornados or severe storms, hurricanes and tropical storms, floods, wildfires, earthquakes, drought, incidents of mass violence, and anniversaries of triggered events.

Mobile Vet Center (MVC) are large mobile vehicles with space for confidential counseling and are used to provide outreach to individuals in communities that are distant from existing services. Also provides emergency services in response to national emergencies and disasters.

The Care Center is the hub of many resources at the Center of Hope. Services provided include computers and phone/fax - Guests can use, at no charge, for resume and employment/job searching; and Pastoral Care - Individuals can receive one on one counseling with the pastoral team, including getting connected with the Earn-Your-Way program.
