The State Library provides access to information for employees and libraries of the state of South Dakota in order to support education, commerce, lifelong learning and enhance the quality of life. Information is provided in multiple formats including online full text databases, talking books for the blind and visually impaired and enhanced videos for the hearing impaired.

The library offers a wide variety of services including print and non-print materials, WiFi, and public internet computers.

Resources, programs, and services available at Mitchell Public Library include - books (physical, eBooks, and audiobooks) for readers of all ages; digital magazines; Spanish language materials; movies; board games; magazine, journal, and newspaper databases; various subject databases; practice exams for a variety of pursuits; programming for children, teens, and adults; summer reading programs; interlibrary loan services; free computer use; free Wi-Fi; mobile printing; 3D printing; community meeting rooms; and used book sales.

A self-serve satellite branch is located within the Summerset City Hall. Items may be borrowed and returned at either location.

Access eBooks, audiobooks, magazines, and streaming videos through the library's digital collections. Use computers or Wi-Fi, or print from home using the mobile printing app, and pick up prints in the library or at the drive-thru window. Get help with mobile devices - iPads, Kindles, smart phones, etc. Use the library's makerspace to laser engrave, print custom stickers, poster, banners, 3D printing, and more. Enhance job skills or get homework help using the library's online learning resources. Participate in library events for all ages. Get library services at the library's bookmobile throughout the community. The Home Delivery Program helps those in the community gain access to library materials. Provides personalized selections delivered to the patron in their residence. There is no cost for this service. Delivery is limited to residents who live within Rapid City Area School District inside Pennington County. ​Other services include test proctoring, no-cost notary services, faxing, reference assistance, local history resources, and dial-a-story.
