Provides the comforts of home to families with sick or injured children receiving medical care far from home. We serve families across all of South Dakota and the upper Midwest. Common Sense Parenting Class: Classes are interactive and include videotaped examples to watch, rather than a lecture format. Topics cover a wide range of mental health issues from alcoholism and the family to stress management. SMILE: Education program for separating and divorcing parents with children under the age of 18, designed to inform parents how to better understand the effects of divorce; assist parents to understand the needs of their children; help parents learn what they can do to create a nurturing and safe environment so their children can recover and feel good about themselves; inform parents how to prevent destructive game playing that is common among divorce; help parents gain problem solving skills. Elementary School Program: Shows students the relationship between what they learn now and how it will impact their success later in life. This supplement to regular grade school curriculum is presented by a volunteer in five 30-45 minute sessions. Middle and High School Programs: Build on concepts learned in elementary programs; supplement standard social studies curriculum; help students make informed, intelligent decisions about how to prepare for educational, professional and financial futures; help students develop communication skills essential to the business world; and teach students about micro- and macro-economics as well as standard business practices.

The Vermillion Area Chamber & Development Company (VCDC) functions as a Chamber of Commerce, office of Economic Development, and Visitor/Tourism Bureau for Vermillion and the surrounding area. It operates in direct partnership with several other agencies, including the City of Vermillion, University of South Dakota, and the nonprofit Missouri Valley Growth, to better grow the economic prosperity of the area and create a positive environment in which to do business. Provides presentations to organizations, civic groups, and schools regarding healthy relationships, violence prevention, sexual assault, rape, and domestic violence, dating violence, controlling relationships, bystander training, effects of violence on children, resources for victims of violence, protection orders, safety plans, stalking, and human trafficking. Provides specific training programs to assist the community with violence prevention including: It's Our Business: developed for use in small- to mid-size businesses. Attendees learn how to prevent domestic violence and sexual assault/harassment in the workplace, as well as offering support to coworkers who have experienced violence in their lives. Safe Bars: hospitality staff are trained to spot sexual harassment and appropriate interventions. Little Navigators: trained therapists provide trauma-informed education to childcare facilities, support children in developing their social skills with peers and adults and development of feeling identification and expression, and provide on-site individual and group play-based therapy services.

CASA recruits, screens, trains and provides guidance and support to volunteers who serve as advocates for abused and neglected children placed into foster care while involved in the court process. Mandatory training is required for all new volunteers. 30 hours of in-person or online training is available bi-monthly.
