Typically available in August. 2024: Collaboration with United Way. August 15, 2024 at Contact Center 4:00pm - 6:00pm. Students must be enrolled in the Yankton School District. Deadline to register for a backpack is August 9, 2024. Contact Center does not help with any kind of deposit (rent, utility, etc).

60's + Dining is a senior congregate meal program that provides a nutritious noon meal which reduces or prevents malnutrition, a major cause of other health problems. The program also provides socialization for the participants, which helps ease the problem of isolation among older persons. Persons who are unable to leave their homes due to illness or frailty may receive a home-delivered meal, while those who are able to travel meet at a congregate site for their meals. Participants in the program are asked to make a donation for the meal, but no one is refused service if unable to do so. Frozen Meal Program available to any client over 60. Quality, balanced, nutritious meals are flash frozen in specialty containers that can be heated in the microwave.

A youth organization that provides a safe place for kids to go after school and during the summer on week days. Members participate in a variety of activities such as homework help/tutoring, organized sports programs, Youth for Unity, Teen Center, and guided activities on character and leadership, education and career skills, and healthy living/active lifestyles. Snacks are provided.

CSFP program (Commodities): Provides healthy food once a month to low income elderly. A 25-28 lb. box of healthy food and 2-lbs of cheese available once a month. TEFAP (The Emergency Food Assistance Program): Provides emergency food assistance at no cost. The only requirement for TEFAP recipients is self-declaration that they fall within the TEFAP income eligibility guidelines. Food Pantry - client choice pantry: Available to those with a gross household income no more than 185% of poverty level. Participants can shop once a month. Quantity of food is based on the size of household. Mitchell Food Pantry is an equal opportunity provider.
Provides nutritious meals, companionship, and community support to seniors and individuals in need while empowering them to live independently with dignity in their homes. Consists of a hot meal delivered to their door Monday through Friday from 10:45am to 12:30pm. See Meals On Wheels section of the Active Generations website to apply for the Senior Meals Program in your community. Menus meet 1/3 of the Dietary Reference Intakes (DRI's) for the population served. Menus are designed by a Registered Dietitian and are low in fat and sodium. Special diets are available upon request; diabetic, gluten free, renal, as well as textured modified servings. Supportive services include: information and referrals, nutrition counseling and education.

Active Generations Meal Program is sponsored in part by the National Senior Nutrition Project. Funding for Senior Meals is a joint effort between federal and state governments, community support and participant donations.
