This office offers the following emergency assistance - Economic Assistance (i.e. Rent, Utility shut-offs disconnects), Medical Assistance, and Burial Assistance.

Services include spiritual services, utility bill expense assistance (on individual case basis), rent payment assistance (on individual case basis), mortgage payment assistance (on individual case basis), clothing, shelter, emergency services, character building programs, and offer some hotel assistance if funding allows. Please note - there is no physical homeless shelter, but shelter may be provided in the form of a hotel voucher (if funding is available).

The county may be able to assist with the following: Medical Assistance: for indigent residents of Lawrence County who do not have health insurance or any other means of paying medical bills. Economic Assistance: for rent, utilities, and burials. Rent and utility assistance may be approved once in a 12 month period.

Clearinghouse for local food pantry, gas vouchers, utility (including water, electric, and gas bills with a disconnection notice), and rent help. Love Inc is not income based, rather they are need based. If Love, Inc is unable to help, clients will be referred to the appropriate agency. Programs include: Friday Backpack Program (healthy snacks for weekends), Adopt-A-Student Backpack Program (supplies and backpack for the school year), personal care pantry, winter coat drive, Helping Hands Baby Ministry, Love Inc's Clothing Closet (a thrift store for the Canton community), and budgeting classes.

This office is the keeper of County records and acts as a bookkeeper of County business. The Auditor is responsible for County Commissioner meetings including scheduling, agenda, business follow-up, Preparing the County's budget, Audit bills or other claims against the County and prepare the warrants in payment of these bills, Figuring the mil levy, and Head election officer of the County. Also deals with Voter Registration and Absentee Voting. The Auditor's Office also handles requests for one-time economic assistance that may include Rent, Utility for current bills, May be available for water, lights, heating, Medical, hospitalization, and burial assistance requires pre-approval if not for emergency services. All other resources must have been exhausted first. Assistance does require payback and county lien is filed until paid in full.

ICAP Housing Services provides the following programs: Rapid Rehousing and Homeless Prevention Programs: aims to help two specific groups - persons who are at great risk of homelessness and those who have become homeless. Services that can be provided include case management, security deposit and rent assistance. These services are aimed at helping participants to retain their housing, therefore avoiding homelessness, or to re-enter appropriate permanent housing as quickly as possible. Housing Repair / Rehabilitation: Provides a zero-interest, five-year decreasing balance loan for eligible homeowners to be used for accessibility modifications for persons with disabilities, in addition to making necessary repairs for health, safety and code compliance. Self-Help Housing Rehabilitation: Eligible participants will work with program staff to identify their specific needs and to create a work plan. The Program Coordinator will find the best funding sources available to the homeowners and assist them throughout the process. Weatherization and Furnace Replacement Program: Aimed at making housing for low-income persons more energy-efficient and less costly for the residents. The residence is audited and a list of needs is developed. The program provides the materials and pays contractors for the labor to weatherize the home (caulk cracks, insulate, weather-strip, fix windows, etc.). Furnaces can be repaired or replaced, if not repairable, through the program. In addition, some inefficient/high-cost non-operating appliances (range / refrigerator / water heater) can also be replaced in certain circumstances. Homeless Rent and Deposit: Helping homeless households get into housing. Must provide steady and reliable source of income. Applicant must agree to case management services.

The client does not receive any bill from County but is expected to repay the debt, starting in a time frame created by the caseworker. Applicants can choose to walk-in to the office or receive a phone call to complete an interview. Those applying for transportation, medications or ID/BC assistance should come into the office to apply.

Responsible for commissioners proceedings, agendas, and records, accounting records, revenue, and expense reports, voter registration and election, businesses applications for beer and liquor licenses, figures real estate and mobile home taxes, handles county bid lettings, manages medical indigent, county payroll and employee drug and alcohol testing programs, and the Auditor and Treasurer work in conjunction to pay county bills. This office also oversees one time, last resort/emergency financial assistance in the form of an interest-free loan for residents who need help with burial expenses, medical indigent claims, prescription payment assistance, rent payment assistance (to prevent eviction), and utility payment assistance for current and past due bills regarding water, lights, heating, phone, and trash.

This is a tenant-based voucher program for persons or families who are homeless and have struggled with chronic homelessness and suffer from severe and persistent mental health issues. It allows qualified individuals/families to receive rental assistance in the unit of their choice as long as it meets HUD's Housing Quality Standards. The assistance travels with the tenant and can be transferred anywhere within the city limits of Sioux Falls. The client must agree to participate in case management.
