Housing assistance programs assist eligible households with rent, in either a designated housing unit or a unit of choice. DOES NOT provide one-time or immediate rental assistance This office has a list of low income rental units in the area; these units would be available (if they have openings) to individuals and families that aren't currently on Section 8. Stop by during regular business hours to pick one up. If there are no printed lists in the lobby, please call and tell the office so they are able to resupply. Note, the properties on the list are not affiliated with Sioux Falls Housing, and SFH is not responsible for the keeping the information current. Hope Prison Ministry helps men or women by giving them a hand up so they have the means to start their lives anew after release from incarceration, by providing them with clothes and resources they need to find food, transportation, housing, and other items deemed reasonable on a one-time basis. Offers fellowship and friendship beyond the walls. Mentoring Programs: Focus on one-to-one positive interactions with inmates with the goal of preventing a return to criminal behavior. P-2 Project is a person-to-person visitation program that provides one-to-one visitation with a jail inmate. M-2 Program is a man-to-man visitation program that provides one-to-one visitation with an inmate at the South Dakota State Penitentiary.

Administers the Housing Choice Voucher program in Codington and Clark Counties. Applicants must meet income guidelines established by HUD and meet eligibility requirements with regard to a criminal background. When leased on the program clients will spend at least 30% of their adjusted monthly income but no more than 40% of their adjusted monthly income towards rent and utilities, with a minimum rent of $50. They are required to sign a one-year lease when admitted to the program. WHA owns and manages a 60 unit Hi-Rise building for elderly/disabled individuals and 25 scattered family units in Watertown under the Public Housing program. Applicants must meet income guidelines established by HUD and meet eligibility requirements with regards to a criminal background. Previous landlord references are also required with application. Tenants are required to pay at least 30% of their monthly adjusted income towards rent and utilities.

Administers the federal section 8 Housing Choice voucher program an income based program with assistance for the disabled, elderly, and working poor. Program has a waiting list and does not have emergency assistance, process includes filling out an application to be on the waiting list. As vouchers become available, applications are processed for eligibility certification. If a family is determined eligible, they will receive a Housing Choice Voucher to be used in existing rental housing that is not subsidized through another program. A program of Consumer Credit Counseling Service of Lutheran Social Services of South Dakota dedicated to providing tools that individuals, couples and families need to be successful homeowners. Provides pre-purchase counseling, Home Buyer Express sessions and seminars (for new homeowners) as well as Mortgage Foreclosure Prevention counseling and reverse Mortgage Counseling for homeowners 62 and older. The Housing Resource Center is a non-profit program which helps everyone from new homeowners to current homeowners needing help to gain financial stability in order to prevent mortgage delinquency. The Tenant/Landlord Program includes an information hotline (addressing issues such as rights and responsibilities, delinquent rent, tax credit referrals and fair housing); and education.

Administers HUD's Section 8 Housing Choice Voucher program. The Voucher Program is the federal government's major program for assisting very low-income families, the elderly, and the disabled to afford decent, safe, and sanitary housing in the private market. Since housing assistance is provided on behalf of the family or individual, participants are able to find their own housing, including single-family homes and apartments. The participant is free to choose any housing that meets the requirements of the program and is not limited to units located in subsidized housing projects.
