The Finance Office is responsible for Accounts payable and receivable, The official records of the city, City commission minutes and agendas, Examining and analyzing accounting records, Preparing financial reports concerning the city, Accident insurance claims, City related election information (Mayor and City Commissioners, not primary or general elections), Voter registration cards are available which will then be sent to the County Auditor's Office. Also responsible for Special assessments, Water, sewer, and garbage hookup, billing, and service requests, Alcoholic beverage licenses, Digging and excavation permits, Bike registration, and Transient merchant (business) licenses. Prevent crime, enforce the law, and support public safety by providing registration of offenders and victim notification, licensing pets and bicycles, enforcing adolescent curfews, Crime Stoppers line, Year-round drug take-back site, and offers gun locks.

Services include enforcing municipal codes, licensing pets, licensing bicycles, Neighborhood Watch, Crime Stoppers, and a drug take-back site.

Provides answers to general police related questions, bicycle permits, filing police reports, locating towed cars and sex offender registration. Also serves as a point of contact for community resource officers, citizen's police academy, new immigrant citizen education, and neighborhood watch.

Programs of the police department include ​Crime Stoppers: a non-profit organization of concerned citizens that provides the public with an anonymous means to relay information concerning criminal activity to law enforcement. Cash rewards are paid for tips that result in the arrest or indictment of those responsible. ​DARE: presented in the Yankton elementary schools. ​Pet Licensing: annual required licensing of dogs and cats. ​Animal Control, ​Citizens Academy, ​Medication Disposal: shares year-round prescription drug take-back site with Yankton County Sheriff's Office; and the ​Sex Offender Registry.
