Youth & Family Services Boys' Health Program is offered to boys, ages 5 - 18, who may be at risk of developing physical, mental, or social health problems. Boys are referred to the program by school counselors, teachers, parents, health service providers, and social services agencies. Once enrolled, boys work closely with advocates to set and attain individualized goals. The Boys' Health Program serves boys and young men in Rapid City with health-focused case management, education, advocacy, and prevention services. The Boys' Health Program helps lay the groundwork for lifestyle habits and attitudes that will strongly influence boys' health and behaviors as adults.

Offers access to resources such as training, videos, curricula, and books on topics surrounding the issues of alcohol, tobacco, other drugs, and violence related issues. Training and resources are offered around mental health first aid and suicide prevention. Provides services to 21 counties in the N.E. region of South Dakota. Also, has DisposeRX packets available, which is a home disposal solution for prescriptions. A person just adds warm water into the pill bottle and empties the packet in the bottle as well. Shake it up for 30 seconds and dispose. Available to anyone in the 21 counties in the N.E. region of South Dakota (the HSA coverage area).

The Juvenile Diversion Program, which includes Teen Court and Truancy Court, is a collaboration between the Pennington County State's Attorney, the 7th Judicial Court, and local social service providers. It is offered as an alternative to court involvement for juvenile offenders ages 10-17. Teen Court is a volunteer youth program, and accepts volunteers 14-17 years old. Charges typically eligible for diversion include: Minor consumption/possession of alcohol Shoplifting Simple assault Disorderly conduct Disturbance in school Truancy Possession of tobacco, marijuana, or drug paraphernalia The following are some of the classes and other activities that may be required during the three-month program. Participants are responsible for all program costs. Scholarships may be available for families needing financial assistance. - Property Offense and Stop and Think Classes, a two-hour class emphasizing choices and consequences. - Community Service, juveniles work as volunteers in the community for a specific number of hours in either diversion-arranged projects or at other sites arranged by the family. - M.A.D.D. Victim Impact Panel, juveniles attend a presentation by individuals whose lives have been affected by drinking and driving accidents. - Tattoo Removal, juveniles wanting tattoos removed, can be referred to T.R.U.S.T. (Tattoo Removal Unified Support Team).

Scouts BSA: for youth ages 11 - 17 and introduces initiative and independence. Venturing: for young men and women ages 14 - 20. The programs are outdoor and high adventure oriented, often with church youth groups as sponsors. Career Interest Exploring: available to young men and women ages 10 - 20. Exploring gives young people a chance to explore careers in medicine, animal care, law enforcement, computers, engineering, etc. and other special interests or hobbies.

Lifeways has school-based Addiction and Prevention Counselors in the Rapid City Area School District and limited services in the Douglas School District. Addiction Counselors are also available at main office in Rapid City for all adolescents (public, private and home-schooled) who are experiencing problems with substance use and in need of screening and/or assessment and treatment.

Arise Youth Center provides detention alternatives for youth in Minnehaha County, including: - Reception Center: Safe environment for law enforcement can transport youth to wait to be picked up by a parent or approved adult, staff complete screenings and offer resources to the youth and their parent or guardian. - Shelter Care: Temporary care as an alternative to going into a secure detention facility if the youth does not require that level of service. Assists youth and their parent or guardian through a screening process to identify needs and community resources along with a discharge plan in collaboration with the court system. - Safe place: For runaway homeless youth to access services on a walk-in basis. Evening Reporting Center: An alternative to detention that allows youth to remain in the community while receiving additional services. Services include 4 hours of programming that incorporates homework help, meal planning and preparation and job skill development.

Threat assessment is a thorough process including interviews with student(s), family, law enforcement, and school personnel or other collateral persons; data collection to corroborate facts; and uses specific questioning to assess threat risk in situations that a person (ex. youth) has made a specific threat toward a school, individual, or group of persons and/or has brought a weapon to school. This could include if an individual has made a threat on social media. Assessors have been trained by Sigma Threat Management Associates. Schools contracted with Carroll Institute take first priority.

The CWOY Support Navigator program is designed to provide support for American Indian youth, adults, and their families in the He Sapa area who struggle with suicidal thoughts or behaviors. The WPRC seeks to divert or delay those we serve from substance use and other high-risk behaviors to promote choices/behaviors resulting in lifelong mind and body wellness. The WPRC primarily focuses prevention support services to stakeholders in South Dakota's 22 westernmost counties, but often serves an even broader audience. The WPRC's services include providing education, technical assistance, training and other support to prevention service providers, youth, parents, educators, community groups, social service providers, health/wellness agencies, chemical dependency service providers, law enforcement and other community wellness stakeholders. WPRC staff can provide community education and information on a broad range of prevention topics. These topics include: - Individual drugs (alcohol, nicotine, vaping, marijuana, methamphetamine, fentanyl, etc.) - Trends in drug use - Over the counter drug misuse - The science of chemical dependence (brain and body) - Risky behavior marketing - 988/211 Helpline usage The WPRC maintains a traditional library of books and other media relating to prevention, health and wellness.
