Works to bring immigrants, immigrant advocates, and non-immigrant community members together to deepen their relationships and cultural understanding. Nearly all efforts are focused on Latin immigrants.
Immigrant families in need are provided food, furniture, school supplies, household items, and diapers.
Also provides organizing community English classes and connecting ESL volunteers with new English language learners, networking with immigration service providers in Eastern South Dakota, creating a general referral service for immigrants needing assistance, arranging translation services when needed, assisting families with their efforts to change immigration status, and community outreach to educate the non-immigrant community about obstacles immigrants experience in the Brookings area.

Students can discuss their needs in confidence with any school staff member OR any school staff member can recognize a student's needs they would like to address. If the school does not currently have the needed items, the school will reach out to the MSD Caring Closet and volunteers will do their best to help fulfill the student's needs. School supplies: Helps lower-income families by providing some or all of the basic necessities to the student. School supplies are distributed in August.
