Vision Advocacy & Services | LifeSight

LifeSight provides four primary programs: - KidsFIRST: provides free vision screenings for pre-school and elementary school children by means of partnerships with area eye care professionals and local volunteers. To schedule a KidsFIRST free vision screening, contact LifeSight at 605-716-6733. Screenings are available for children 6 months of age - 5th grade. - Gift of Sight: provides sight-saving surgeries to those in our community without the financial means to afford care, helping these individuals regain their vision, and most importantly, independence, mobility and quality of life. This program is available only by referral from an area eye doctor (optometrist or ophthalmologist). - VisionCARE: provides no-cost eye exams and glasses, critical to one's overall health and wellbeing, to individuals who meet program criteria and have no other option for care, providing a simple but powerful path to helping people see better to live better. Contact LifeSight at 605-716-6733 for program criteria information. - Scholarship Program: Annually awards the LifeSight Dr. Paul L. Zimmerman Memorial Endowed Scholarship to a fourth year student at the University of South Dakota Sanford School of Medicine planning to pursue a career in ophthalmology. LifeSight does not offer Eye Examinations, but serves as a resource and referral contact for those with vision impairment.

Seniors Eye Care Program | EyeCare America

Ensures that every senior has access to medical eye care and promotes annual, dilated eye exams. It raises awareness about age-related eye disease, including cataracts, providing free eye care educational materials and facilitates access to eye care at no out-of-pocket expenses for eligible seniors. A comprehensive medical eye exam is provided and treatment for anything diagnosed at the initial visit for up to one year at no out-of-pocket cost for the physician's services. People may visit the website anytime, for themselves and / or family members and friends, to determine if they qualify for a referral from one of EyeCare America's 4,600 volunteer ophthalmologists nationwide. Excluded: eyeglasses, prescription drugs, hospital services, and fees of other medical professionals.

Eye Glasses and Vision Services | South Dakota Lions Foundation

KidSight South Dakota - Working to screen children for eye health. Mobile screening units are available to daycares, preschools and schools on request. - Eyeglasses & Hearing Aid Collection - Glasses are inspected, cleaned, refurbished, and reused by people in need in developing countries around the world. Hearing aids are also refurbished to improve the quality of life for those who cannot afford new technology. In Sioux Falls - drop locations for used hearing aids and eyeglasses are available at every Lewis store or the Foundation office. In Rapid City - any of the collection boxes at the three Boyd's Drug locations. In greater South Dakota, we have drop locations for used hearing aids and eyeglasses in dozens of small towns. Please call our office for the full list. Specific Assistance Program - Partners with healthcare professionals to provide vision services (eye glasses) at reduced rates to income-qualified individuals (200% of federal poverty level). For local Lions Club information (including meetings and contact details), contact the Foundation Office.
