The Aberdeen Parks, Recreation and Forestry Department provides recreational/leisure services to the Aberdeen Community and surrounding region. This includes 12 city parks (including 3 dog parks), over 20 miles of trails, 2 softball complexes, Fossum Baseball Field Complex, Kuhnert Arboretum, 2 outdoor ice rinks and 1 indoor ice arena. Wylie Park and Storybook Land is one of the primer parks in the region. It includes 2 campgrounds, Miniature golf, go-karts, picnic facilities and bike and skate rentals. At Storybook Land families enjoy a world of imagination inspired by nursery rhymes and featuring the Land of Oz. Also enjoy a ride on the Train, Carousel, Balloon Ride and Roller Coaster. The Recreation Division provides recreational activities year round for all ages including youth ball leagues, youth & adult tennis lessons and leagues, skating lessons, open gyms, recreational skating, cross country ski lessons, and adult basketball and volleyball leagues. Many special events are offered including Family Fun Weekend, Tennis Tournaments, Storybook Land Festival, Winterfest and Holiday Celebration just to name a few. The YAPAtorium Teen Center provides many activities for teens. Other facilities include: Aberdeen Recreation and Cultural Center (ARCC) where programming in the visual arts, dance, music, and theatre occur for all ages. Other areas at the ARCC include the Civic Arena, Civic Theatre, and the ARCC Gallery. The Aberdeen Aquatic Center provides entertainment for the whole family with the lap pool, diving boards, leisure pool with multilevel play structure, 3 waterslides, and the Lazy River. Other activities include swimming lessons, water walking and adult water exercise. Lee Park Golf Course is an 18 hole public course which provides lessons and leagues. Aberdeen Senior Center provides many programs and activities for people over 50 years of age

Community Friendship Gardens Garden plots are available for a $33.00 fee, please call for an application and information. Garden Guidelines and Rules: All plots and surrounding areas must be kept free of weeds, trash, and litter. Plots need to be cleaned up by October 15 of each year so that tilling can be done for the following year. Don't forget to harvest all of your crops. Any fencing must be removed at the end of the season before the City does their tilling. Forestry Tree branches are to be trimmed and cut to a minimum height of thirteen and one-half (13½) feet above the street or alley level to allow ample space for the movement of city maintenance and garbage disposal equipment. All existing hedges and shrubs on the boulevard or parking strips shall be trimmed to a height of thirty inches as measured from the gutter level of the street. Trees shall be planted at a distance (30 feet) apart as determined by the Parks and Recreation Board considering the ultimate size of the variety of tree involved. Please call for a free planting permit and staking the location for boulevard trees. A free tree removal permit is issued by this office if you wish to remove trees or stumps that are located on the boulevard or in an alley area.

Sioux Falls Community Garden is a cooperative effort involving the City of Sioux Falls, Minnehaha County Master Gardeners, Minnehaha County Extension Service, and a dedicated group of volunteers, including more than 200 individual gardeners. Gardeners are responsible for planting, maintenance (including weeds and garden paths), harvesting, and end of season clean up.

Sioux Falls has three skate parks: Drake Springs Skate Park, Kuehn Park, and Barb Iverson Skate Plaza. Only skateboards, inline skates, and BMX bikes allowed. No other wheeled devices of any kind are allowed within the skate park. Availability of skate parks in the future may be dependent on patrons' compliance with the following: Skate at your own risk as parks are not supervised and users assume all risks inherent in the use of these facilities. Use of these facilities may result in serious injury or death. It is strongly recommended that users wear an approved helmet, knee and elbow pads, and wrist guards. Food and drink are not allowed inside the rink or skate park areas. Glass, alcohol, and smoking are prohibited. No stickers, loud music, inappropriate language/actions, or reckless behavior allowed.

Sioux Falls Parks and Recreation maintains and operates more than 3,400 acres of parkland, made up of: Aquatic facilities: The Midco Aquatic Center, five outdoor facilities, one wading pool and two spray parks. These facilities offer swimming lessons, water fitness, and other fun recreational pool events. In 2025, Parks and Recreation will add a new facility with a 25-yard saline-based pool and warm water pool and other recreation space at Tea-Ellis. More than 80 parks and more than 36 miles of connected, paved trail for running, walking, biking through Sioux Falls. There are also numerous hiking and walking trails located in parks. Falls Park: The City's namesake is an international location. Every winter it's lit up with thousands of lights for Winter Wonderland. In 2025, the Park will add Jacobson Plaza and Lloyd Landing in the south end of the park. Various Parks amenities including archery, baseball fields, outdoor basketball courts, disc golf courses, football fields, golf courses, ice ricks, hockey rinks, lacrosse fields, tennis and pickle ball courts, mini-pitches, shelters, pickle ball courts, rugby pitch, soccer fields, softball fields, tennis courts, skate parks, indoor and outdoor volleyball courts, a winter recreation area, and off-leash dog parks, reservable band shells, and reservable picnic shelters, the Battleship Memorial.​ The forestry team nurtures more than 54,000 trees in the City's urban forest. Recreation Division oversees athletic facilities and special events and provides more than 900 program experiences every year like music, theater, tours, sport leagues, playground programming, outdoor programming, programs for toddlers to seniors. Oversight of third-party attractions on park land including: Great Bear Recreation Park, Levitt at the Falls, Sioux Falls Zoo & Aquarium, Mary Jo Wegner Arboretum, Prairie Green, Kuehn, and Elmwood golf courses, Falls Park Visitors Center and Overlook Café.
