​ The James Valley Community Center (JVCC) is a multi-generational community focal point for services and programs in the Mitchell and surrounding areas. The JVCC is a City of Mitchell facility that is dedicated to providing participants with a variety of leisure, recreational, cultural and educational activities in a safe, comfortable and welcoming environment. Some of the many activities include: Cards, Mah Jongg, Darts, Pool Tables, Ping Pong, Shuffleboard, Wellness Education, Exercise, Fine Arts, Dances, Celebrations, Bingo, Community Outreach, Presentations, Bus Trips, Quilting, etc. Also has computer access and internet available for the members to use, or pay the $1.00 daily fee to utilize the computers, Internet, and facility here.

Provides a safe and healthy environment to the citizens of the greater Sturgis area so that they may participate in recreational and entertaining activities, including a 25 yard, 6 lane, indoor swimming pool with diving board, 72 foot waterslide, hot tub, Sauna, outdoor patio, gymnasium, indoor walking and running track, weight room, cardio room, racquetball courts, and locker rooms. The Performing Arts Theater is located within the Community Center and has a 442 seating capacity. The theater hosts special events, conventions, seminars, concerts, and plays. Meeting rooms and a kitchen are also available for rental. The Community Center also provides recreational programs including youth basketball, youth football, youth swim lessons, and adult softball.

Maintains parks, lake access and green space areas. Manages the City of Mitchell Urban Forest, and provides and maintains sports fields and facilities, and also provides recreational programming for all ages and abilities. The Parks and Recreation department manages the Mitchell Recreation Center and Indoor Aquatic Center, that provides fitness and recreational opportunities to the public as well as the outdoor aquatic center. The Parks and Recreation department also manages Lakeview Municipal Golf Course, an 18-hole municipal facility.

The Parks, Recreation and Event Department oversees the operations of city parks, recreation center and swimming pool, public spaces, cemeteries, playgrounds, athletic fields, event complex, and special and community events.

The Healthy Living program consists of adult activities, group fitness, personal training, and a wellness center. They include: Rails Strength & Fitness - constantly varied, functional movements executed at high intensity, Group Fitness - more than 100 classes a week that are included in membership including specialty fitness classes, InBody Consultation - Body composition assessments for those ages 12+, Personal Training - staff can create a personalized training and nutrition regimen, Wellness Center - cardio equipment and weight equipment, and Lap and Open swim pool schedule/Swim lessons.

Finance Responsible for managing the fiscal affairs of a city, town, or township. Responsibilities varies by jurisdiction but generally include budget development and monitoring, accounting services, cash and asset management, payroll, contract administration, grants management and financial reporting. Manages the Recreation Center and Indoor/Outdoor Aquatic Centers. Mayor's Office / City Hall City hall provides the City Council agendas and oversees long range planning for the city. City Administration approves special event permits, coordinates planning, organizing and directing the activities of the city departments. Offers group exercise, senior classes, strength and cardio equipment, swimming, track, open gym, fitness classes, personal training, and a variety of youth programming with the goal of making accessible the support and opportunities that empower people and communities to learn, grow and thrive.

Provides activities and services for adults and children in the city of Chamberlain. The department is also in charge of the day to day operational services of the Chamberlain Community Center.​

Free, year round drop-in youth center, offering homework help, video games, a music room, art supplies, billiards, and so much more. In addition to the youth center, it also hosts a variety of youth-oriented after school programs and special events where teens can spend time with their friends in a safe, supervised setting.

Madison Community Center oversees the following services: ASP (After School Program) which is designed to offer kids a safe and adult supervised environment filled with physical and educational activities, Madison Parks including recreation, youth programs, ice skating rinks and Madison associations including youth baseball, Madison Aquatic Center, CC Wellness Studio, fitness, and birthday party rooms.

Aquatics division services include fitness classes, CPR classes, babysitting classes, lifeguard courses, and American Red Cross health and safety courses.

Wellness area housing: treadmills, ellipticals, stationary bikes, step mill, row machines, NU steps, Sci-Fit, strength training machines, and free-weight room with machines and TV. The Aberdeen Parks, Recreation and Forestry Department provides recreational/leisure services to the Aberdeen Community and surrounding region. This includes 12 city parks (including 3 dog parks), over 20 miles of trails, 2 softball complexes, Fossum Baseball Field Complex, Kuhnert Arboretum, 2 outdoor ice rinks and 1 indoor ice arena. Wylie Park and Storybook Land is one of the primer parks in the region. It includes 2 campgrounds, Miniature golf, go-karts, picnic facilities and bike and skate rentals. At Storybook Land families enjoy a world of imagination inspired by nursery rhymes and featuring the Land of Oz. Also enjoy a ride on the Train, Carousel, Balloon Ride and Roller Coaster. The Recreation Division provides recreational activities year round for all ages including youth ball leagues, youth & adult tennis lessons and leagues, skating lessons, open gyms, recreational skating, cross country ski lessons, and adult basketball and volleyball leagues. Many special events are offered including Family Fun Weekend, Tennis Tournaments, Storybook Land Festival, Winterfest and Holiday Celebration just to name a few. The YAPAtorium Teen Center provides many activities for teens. Other facilities include: Aberdeen Recreation and Cultural Center (ARCC) where programming in the visual arts, dance, music, and theatre occur for all ages. Other areas at the ARCC include the Civic Arena, Civic Theatre, and the ARCC Gallery. The Aberdeen Aquatic Center provides entertainment for the whole family with the lap pool, diving boards, leisure pool with multilevel play structure, 3 waterslides, and the Lazy River. Other activities include swimming lessons, water walking and adult water exercise. The Strode Center and Aberdeen Dome are facilities available for public use and provides a weight room. These facilities can be used for a daily fee, a 10 use punch card, or with a monthly membership. Lee Park Golf Course is an 18 hole public course which provides lessons and leagues. Melgaard Park Disc Golf Course is a 9 hole public course. Aberdeen Senior Center provides many programs and activities for people over 50 years of age

Indoor walking track, basketball, volleyball, & pickle ball courts. Theater and full serving kitchen. Receptions, meetings, weddings, sporting events, reunions, dances and parties can be held here.

Parks and Recreation office provides tree planting information, oversight of the Auld-Brokaw Trail System, maintains a trail and parks map, and oversees park and facility rental. The Parks and Recreation department offers a recreation scholarship program for youth under 17 who live in Yankton to attend one swimming lesson and one recreation program per year dependent on class openings and financial and/or personal hardship. Summit Activities Center features an indoor pool with water slide, 2 gymnasiums, 3 multi-purpose rooms, cardiovascular equipment, multi-station weights, free weights, small indoor track, and locker facilities. Summit Activities Center outdoor facilities include 8 lighted tennis courts, an all-weather track, 2 softball fields, a walking path, and an arboretum with many different variety of trees and shrubs. Huether Family Aquatics Center is located at the intersection of 21st Street and Douglas. Offers an Olympic-sized pool, 2 3-meter high dive spring boards, 2 1-meter spring boards, 2 small water slides, and a Wading pool.

Services include dental care, mental health services, public health nurse, environmental health care, optometry, laboratory, radiology, pharmacy (Prescription Assistance - Enrolled members of a Native American tribe can get free prescriptions by visiting their local IHS), podiatry, HIV Clinic, SANE services, and Fitness Center.
