The Vaccines for Children's Program provides vaccines for children who are uninsured, have insurance that does not cover vaccinations, are Medicaid eligible, or are Native American or Alaskan Native. For families with insurance coverage, the Department of Health is an in-network provider for Sanford, Avera/Dakotacare, and Blue Cross/Blue Shield. ​Pregnancy Support Services include regular visits with a nurse to share information about pregnancy, to provide assistance in obtaining early and on-going prenatal care from a qualified healthcare provider, and to link women to resources they may need to support a healthy pregnancy. Teaching topics may include: how your body is changing and how your baby is growing; eating healthy and gaining the right amount of weight; warning signs or symptoms that indicate you should contact your doctor; breastfeeding education and support; and caring for you and your baby after delivery. The Watertown location is also able to provide car seats for all ages when the purchase of a car seat is financial hardship.

Also, provides assistance for platting and various permitting along with GIS Systems Management. Can assist with state and county requirements for septic system installation. Assists with questions pertaining to floodplains. Establishes and enforces zoning regulations which classify land within county, city or other municipal jurisdictions for specific agricultural, residential, commercial or industrial uses; and which evaluate, establish rulings upon and hear appeals regarding exceptions to zoning regulations.

A public health nutrition program for income-eligible infants and children up to age 5, pregnant, postpartum, and breastfeeding women. 60's + Dining is a senior congregate meal program that provides a nutritious noon meal which reduces or prevents malnutrition, a major cause of other health problems. The program also provides socialization for the participants, which helps ease the problem of isolation among older persons. Persons who are unable to leave their homes due to illness or frailty may receive a home-delivered meal, while those who are able to travel meet at a congregate site for their meals. Participants in the program are asked to make a donation for the meal, but no one is refused service if unable to do so. Frozen Meal Program available to any client over 60. Quality, balanced, nutritious meals are flash frozen in specialty containers that can be heated in the microwave.

Provides emergency veterinary care and pet cremation grants to pet owners in the Black Hills who are experiencing financial hardship. Does not provide 100% funding and pet owners must pay a portion of their bill prior to the grant being paid to the vet clinic. All grants are paid directly to veterinary clinics and never to the applicant. Does not assist with routine care, spay/neutering, chronic conditions, or euthanasia costs. In order to qualify for cremation grants, euthanasia must be deemed medically necessary by a licensed veterinarian.

The County Weed Supervisor helps control weeds and other pests throughout the county. Duties include inspecting for noxious weeds and/or pests such as insects, spraying to control noxious weeds, invading pests, studying and explaining State and Federal legislation, regulations, and procedures. Medical assistance programs include: ​Children's Health Insurance Program (CHIP). Coverage includes such things as doctor, hospital, prescription drugs, counseling, dental and glasses. Insurance for children up to age 19 at no cost to the family if the income is below certain income levels found on the Federal Poverty Guidelines. If the family income is below 140%, the children may be eligible with or without private health insurance. If there is insurance, CHIP will pay the deductibles, co-insurance, and possibly some medical services not covered by the private insurance. ​Medicaid: Health care coverage for people who qualify. To be eligible for Medicaid, individuals must fall into a coverage group and meet certain financial and non-financial eligibility criteria. Provides help for older adults and people with disabilities.

A 24-hour residential and psychiatric treatment center serving emotionally disturbed and learning disabled children between the ages of 4-14. This program also provides special education services and intensive therapy for children and families who are experiencing difficulty at home, in school, or in the community. Services include day school and residential programs, evaluation services, family supportive services, consultation and training services. Madsen House is designed to provide comprehensive psychiatric diagnosis and assessments, as well as short-term treatment for children ages 4-14 with emotional and behavioral problems. Madsen House Intensive Unit is an eight-bed unit for children ages 4-14 who have severe or chronic emotional and behavioral disorders. Treatment includes psychiatric care, adaptive management, individual, group and family therapy and academic programming. Childcare teams consist of three counselors and one team coordinator, creating a ratio of one staff for every two children.

Hartford Senior Nutrition Meals is for individuals age 60 or older, their spouse, and/or dependent adult living with the eligible participant. Meals are provided by The Wooden Nickel in Crooks. - Congregate Dining: offered at the Senior Citizens building in Hartford Monday - Friday, serving time is at 11:30am. Sign up is required for the meal. Need to call 605-528-3999 by 1:00pm the day before the meal to sign up. Leave a message if no answer. - Home Delivered Meals: offered in Hartford and Humboldt Monday -Friday. Individuals receiving home delivered meals choose what days they would like to receive the meals. To sign up for home delivered meals, call 605-333-3304. When on home delivered meals, will need to call and cancel meals if gone on scheduled day(s). Call 605-528-3999 to cancel. Activities: playing pool, playing cards, and watching television.
