​ Energy assistance program is available for Nebraska Public Power District customers in Pine Ridge, South Dakota. The funds are only available October - May of each year, and not available during the summer months. The maximum amount is $225.00 every 12 months.
ICAP Emergency Services helps with emergency utilities and rent for income qualified households. Must meet all requirements. Also offers food pantry vouchers to those who qualify. Not available to those who reside in Sioux Falls.

Provides energy assistance to low income households, particularly those with the lowest incomes that pay a high proportion of household income for home energy.
Founded on the belief that everyone deserves a home. Pathways offers four different shelter programs: - Emergency Shelter for Families: - 8 rooms designated for households with children. Families will receive 30 days for free in a 12-month period. After 30 days, rent will be charged for extended stay. - Tier 2 Services: - 2 rooms designated for men and women seeking a more permanent residence and access to more services. To qualify for this program, individuals must be employed or be able to pay rent at the start. Total of 4 beds for women and 4 beds for men. - Community Transition Program: - Partnership with South Dakota Department of Corrections; provides 8 beds for men who are needing to re-enter the community. These individuals must follow the same guidelines for admission as other clients. Through the Emergency Solutions Grant, Pathways offers two programs: - Homeless Prevention - For individuals and families who are unable to pay their rent or utilities and will otherwise be displaced from their residence. Call staff to learn more about eligibility requirements. - Rapid Re-housing - For individuals who have found potential housing but may not yet have the funds to secure that housing. For those who are eligible, Pathways may be able to pay first month's rent, rental deposit and utility deposit. Call staff to learn more about eligibility requirements. Funding through the Security Deposit Assistance Program allows Pathways to operate a program solely to assist with security deposits.

Provides emergency assistance for those in either Minnehaha/Lincoln County with rent and deposits, Utility bills: Must have a disconnect notice for water, lights, or heating; Food and non-food items, Burial: Clients should begin by choosing a funeral home and meet with them prior to applying for assistance through Minnehaha County. Also provides transportation assistance, dental care, medical care (hospitalization) and Medications. Minnehaha County residents can also receive assistance with Shelter, Gasoline or bus ticket for transients/nonresidents stranded here and needing to get home. Out of town travel assistance is not offered to MC residents. Identification and or birth certificate (if needed for the purposes of obtaining employment/housing). The majority of assistance provided is in the form of a no-interest loan for which a lien is created. The client does not receive any bill from County but is expected to repay the debt, starting in a time frame created by the caseworker. Applicants can choose to walk-in to the office or receive a phone call to complete an interview. Those applying for transportation, medications or ID/BC assistance should come into the office to apply.

Provides assistance with all utilities including electricity, natural gas, and water to those with a disconnect notice. Assistance is limited to $100.00 once every six months.
Assists with rent assistance for eviction notices, utility assistance for disconnect notices, hotel stays (does not provide a homeless shelter), gasoline or bus pass for stranded motorists or for medical reasons, minor car repairs, assistance after a disaster (i.e. house fire, flood, etc.), and prescription assistance for qualifying medications. The needs of the individual/family will be assessed, and certain documentation may be required (ex. driver's license). After business hours, The Salvation Army of Brookings County works with the Brookings County Sheriff or City Police to help individuals and families in the case of an emergency/immediate need.

Provides the following financial assistance: Economic Assistance: Provides emergency assistance to those in need. The amount of assistance granted is established in the County Guidelines and the Federal Poverty Level Guidelines. Economic assistance is not an on-going program, but is designed to address the immediate need. For all assistance granted, state statute requires that a lien is placed against the individual. Due to the attachment of a lien, the individual is encouraged to exhaust all other resources prior to making application with the county. The county will assist in making appropriate referrals and can act as an advocate on the individual's behalf. Types of assistance include: utility assistance (disconnect notice required), emergency transportation (gas voucher or but ticket), emergency shelter (one night hotel stay), and rent assistance (does not help with first months rent or rental deposit). Rent assistance is only for those individuals who have received a sheriff served 3-day eviction notice. Having the notice is required. Also, resident must have live in Davison County for at least 60 days. Medical Assistance: The county is a resource of last resort and requires that all other resources be exhausted first. Medical assistance is determined by a formula established in state statute. The individual's availability and affordability of health care coverage will be one determining factor of eligibility. All medical services must meet the criteria of medical necessity set by state statue. The county works directly with medical providers and past and current employers in assessing eligibility. The county must approve non-emergency medical procedures prior to the services being performed. The county investigates any potential third-party payee. If the county approves financial assistance, a repayment plan will be established. Types of assistance provided: medication assistance and hospital bill assistance. Funeral Assistance: Davison County Welfare provides financial assistance for funeral services and burials for qualified individuals.

The program assists with household heating costs for propane and fuel oil July 1 - April 30. For electric and gas, meter readings October 1 - May 15 are eligible for payment. Energy funds are distributed on a first come first serve basis. Applications received after March 31 will be processed for the next heating season. The program is designed to provide a supplemental payment to the primary heating cost of a home. Eligibility and assistance amount is based on household income, heating type and region, and number of persons in household. In heating crisis situations, such as disconnect for primary heating source, refusal to deliver or cash on delivery, eviction (if heat is included in rent), or furnace problems, contact the office for emergency assistance. Mortgage and utility assistance for South Dakota residents through Homeowner Assistance Fund (HAF). Mortgage assistance: This program is a LOAN program, up to a maximum of $25,000, will be in the form of a zero-interest loan, payable when the property is either transferred/sold or refinanced. Applicants will be required to contact their mortgage service provider to determine if other alternatives are available. Homeowners in need of immediate assistance should contact their loan servicer to discuss alternative options to prevent foreclosure or a HUD-approved Counseling Agency. Available utility assistance is not a loan, but a grant, so utilities will NOT have to be paid back. Must meet the following criteria: Income qualifications (vary by county) Household has experienced a significant financial hardship due to COVID-19 on or after January 21, 2020. (Must be COVID-related) Household can demonstrate a risk of housing instability or homelessness which may include a past due utility or mortgage notice. They will be notified by email when they become eligible to reapply and they can log on to their applicant dashboard to reapply. Applicants are also free to reach out to their caseworker directly with questions about additional funding.
