Online Stroke and Brain Injury Support Group | American Stroke Association

An online support group for those who have had a stroke or other brain injury/illness. The main focus of the group is to provide opportunity to socialize with others, provide resources, and offer support. This group is facilitated by a speech pathologist, however, no therapy is performed during meetings.

Prevention and Training | Children's Home Society of South Dakota

Children's Home Society is intentional and proactive in its efforts to stop the cycle of child abuse and domestic violence through education, consultation, advocacy and awareness. Statewide training and prevention events are offered throughout the state to professionals, as well as the general public. Topics include recognizing and responding to child abuse and domestic violence, how to handle child abuse disclosures, trauma and ACEs (Adverse Childhood Experiences) education, healthy relationships and dating violence for teens, Enough Abuse training, and free community trainings. Trainings can be customized to the needs of the individual or organization.

Disaster Legal Services | East River Legal Services

Assists individuals with civil legal problems related to a disaster. Services may include help with FEMA support, such as applications/appeals or identifying and gathering relevant documentation; help with insurance claims for doctor and hospital bills, loss of property, loss of life, etc.; drafting of new wills, powers of attorney and other legal papers lost in the disaster; assistance with home repair contracts and contractors; counseling and advice about landlord/tenant matters; and help with consumer protection matters, remedies, and procedures.

Support Services | Independent Living Choices

Provides the following services - Advocacy: Teaches people with disabilities the skills needed to advocate for themselves. Independent Living Skills: Provides hands-on training in daily-living skills including cooking, budgeting, organizing, and more. Information and referral: Connects people with resources which can provide needed information to assist individuals to live independently. Peer counseling: Provides opportunities for people with disabilities to engage with others in small or large groups or on an individual basis. Transition: Facilitates the transition of individuals with disabilities from a nursing home to independent living; providing prevention services to individuals who choose to live independently and not in a nursing home or assisted-living setting; and assisting youth to gain skills as they transition into adulthood. Community Living Services: Assists individuals in obtaining accessible, affordable housing, transportation, and other community living services. Home Modifications Adaptive Devices: Provides home modifications and adaptive devices, which could include ramps, lift chairs, bathroom modifications, reachers, canes, walkers and more. Telecommunication Adaptive Devices: Provides adapted telecommunication services, which includes an emergency phone dialer. American's with Disabilities Act: Serves as educators and consultants for contractors, businesses, organizations, and individuals regarding the American with Disabilities Act (ADA) and its guidelines and requirements. Assistive Daily Living Services: Provides services for people ages 18 and older, with physical disabilities affecting all four limbs, who need assistance with daily living activities. Services include program education and support and personal attendant services. Home Again South Dakota: Provides options for older adults and/or people with disabilities living in nursing homes, hospitals, or long-term care facilities to enable them to successfully return to their homes and communities. Helps individuals identify barriers to living on their own, helps them find a place to live that meets their needs, and helps them find the services and supports they need to continue living independently.

Sioux Falls Suicide Prevention Task Force | Helpline Center

A multi-disciplinary approach to address the issues of suicide prevention in the Sioux Empire Area. Members include professionals from Avera Behavioral Health, Sioux Falls Police Department, Southeastern Behavioral Health, Veterans Hospital, Minnehaha County Sheriff Department, Moms Demand Action, Solace, University of Sioux Falls, Sanford Health, AFSP, Lost & Found, The Link, South Dakota Urban Indian Health, Helpline Center and Empire Mental Health. The task force works together to develop and implement initiatives to raise awareness about suicide and mental health through prevention, intervention and education strategies for preventing suicide.

Veteran Advocacy and Membership | South Dakota Veterans Council

Develops statewide, intelligent, aggressive and serviceable Council for the purpose of promoting all activities found to be for the good of all veterans and their dependents. Provides a means of contact and communication among the members of the Council and veterans organizations. Does any and all things necessary or proper for the accomplishment of the foregoing business and objects of the Council, including, for such purposes, to contract and pay for personal and other services, to contract for, buy, take by deed, gift or devise, hold, posses, manage, borrow, rent, lease, loan, assign, convey, sell and dispose of in any manner real and personal property, and to act as trustee, or be a beneficiary of a trust. Provides a practical means by which veterans organizations throughout the state may effectively contribute to the betterment of all veterans in three principle phases, as follows: Legislation affecting veterans and their dependents. Concern for the general programs for all veterans and their dependents and all veterans' organization, principally hospital, labor and social. Make public information in behalf of all veterans and their dependents and veterans organizations represented and establish a system of public relations for this purpose.

Online Brain Injury Support Group | American Stroke Association

A zoom-based monthly meeting that welcomes survivors of brain injury (traumatic injury, acquired injury, neurological illness). The focus of the meeting is to allow all members to socialize with others, share resources, and offer support to one another. This group is facilitated by a speech pathologist but no formal therapy services are conducted.
