Online Caregiver Support Services | South Dakota Department of Human Services

South Dakota Department of Human Services offers access to free training and resources to help families and caregivers build skills and confidence to provide care for their loved ones at home. Through this easy-to-use online platform, caregivers can learn care skills that can help them improve confidence, reduce stress, and prevent burnout. Once registered, caregivers have unlimited access to all the trainings, articles, and tips available on the Trualta platform. With its online lessons ranging from 5 minutes to 2 hours, caregivers can fit training in whenever it works best. These services are only available online and not provided in person.

Building Better Caregivers: workshop designated for family caregivers of people living with dementia, Alzheimer's, brain injury, other conditions that affect memory, and those who can no longer live at home independently. This is a virtual training. Surviving and Thriving Workshop: workshop designed for cancer survivors and caregivers to improve self-management skills. Chronic Disease Self-Management Workshop: workshop designed to improve the self-management skills of people living with ongoing health issues. Chronic Pain Self-Management Workshop: workshop designed to help participants live a healthy life with chronic pain by managing their symptoms. This is a virtual training. Diabetes Self-Management Workshop: workshop designed for people with prediabetes, type 2 diabetes, a family history of diabetes, and caregivers. Walk with Ease Workshop: a 6-week community-based walking program designed to engage participants to maintain a successful waking program. Workshops include health education, stretching, and group or self-guided walking. Enhance Fitness: group exercise program that helps older adults improve strength, balance, flexibility, and cardiovascular health. Tai Chi for Arthritis and Fall Prevention: exercise program designed to improve balance, reduce pain, and lower the risk of falls. Aging Mastery Program (AMP): 10-week program that helps older adults build their own playbook for aging well.

Structured Family Caregiving | AAA Advantage Home Care, Inc.

Allows family members to get paid to care for an aging adult or an adult with a disability in the person's on home or in the caregiver's home The goal is to enable the person to live in their community while getting needed care and supervision from a paid family caregiver. The caregiver receivers ongoing support and training from a provider.

Classes for Caregivers | Active Generations

Powerful Tools for Caregivers: This class helps caregivers reduce stress, improve self-confidence, balance their life, better communicate their feelings, make tough decisions, and locate helpful resources. Six class sessions held once a week are led by certified, experienced leaders; class sizes range from 8-15 caregivers. Savvy Caregiver Classes: Provides training for unpaid family caregivers of people with dementia or related diseases. The small group discussion classes address the progressive impact of the illness and skills needed to manage daily caregiver responsibilities. The six sessions will help develop good care management tools through group discussions, skill building, problem solving, assertiveness training, and brainstorming. Stressbusting for Family Caregivers Classes: A 9-week program that meets once a week for an hour and a half and offers insights and coping tools to help caregivers manage the stress of caregiving effectively. Classes are available at both Active Generations locations and virtual.

A 10-week intensive counseling program for adoptive and foster families with children ages 5-12. Program activities include caregiver education, kids club, and family therapy. Based on Trust Based Relational Intervention® (TBRI) principles, HALO program was created by Cindy Lee at HALO Project and has shown amazing results for this population.

Provides 8, 2-hour sessions designed to reduce the fear of falling, improve control over falls, and increase exercise and activity. Oncology Outpatient Therapy | Avera

Oncology Outpatient Therapist - offer counseling for people with cancer at any stage of treatment or recovery. Addressing issues of adjustment to illness, fear of reoccurrence, cancer induced distress, anxiety, depression, life legacy, advance care planning, grief, and bereavement. Also available to see any family or support members of the individual for counseling. ​​Telehealth available for any individual with cancer or their support person.
