A social group for families who have a child with a disability or rare disease to meet in a setting where kids can play with their peers and parents connect with each other. Families can also connect in a private online community to ask questions, get answers and recommendations, as well as a safe space to share their experiences. Coping with Cancer: Parents Pushing Forward, Kids Kicking Cancer (patient group), and Bonding Buddies (siblings group), meets quarterly to provide an avenue to support the entire family. Explore common feelings and reactions from diagnosis to treatment. The group looks to provide an environment that promotes listening, sharing, and venting about being diagnosed with cancer. Daycare for young children provided. Gastric Bypass Support Group: Supports individuals who have had gastric bypass surgery and those interested in learning more about weight loss surgery including family and friends. Outpatient Diabetes Class: Includes instruction on: nutrition, exercise, medications, stress management, goal development, and dealing with the complications of the disease. Families are welcome.

Participate in-person in Spearfish, SD, or virtually from anywhere! This event is a great way to honor the memory of a child with a community of supporters. Also works to provide SIDS and safe-sleep awareness and education as well as funding for SIDS-related research. Operations are home-based.

Many children love the fun of attending summer camps, and children with special physical or medical challenges are no exception.Sanford Children's provides camps designed for children with specific challenges or illnesses. All camps take place at barrier-free locations and are staffed with Sanford Children's professionals to ensure children have a safe and fun experience. The 2026 Sanford Children's Summer Camps include Bring it On for children with cancer and pediatric cancer survivors, scheduled for June 21 - 27, 2026; and Spirit Camp for children diagnosed with spina-bifida set for July 12-18, 2026. Both camps will be held at Joy Ranch, eight miles northwest of Watertown, South Dakota.

Understanding Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder: For children ages 5 - 11 and their birth, foster, or adoptive parents. While the parents or parenting team is involved in education, supportive discussion and training, the children will gather in a separate group to work on developmental and behavioral issues.
  • Mental Health First Aid Trainings: Offered periodically. Participants are taught to assess for risk of suicide or harm; listen non-judgmentally; give reassurance and information; encourage appropriate professional help; and encourage self-help and other support strategies.

Assistive Daily Living Services: Provides services for people ages 18 and older, with physical disabilities affecting all four limbs, who need assistance with daily living activities. Services include program education and support and personal attendant services. Home Again South Dakota: Provides options for older adults and/or people with disabilities living in nursing homes, hospitals, or long-term care facilities to enable them to successfully return to their homes and communities. Helps individuals identify barriers to living on their own, helps them find a place to live that meets their needs, and helps them find the services and supports they need to continue living independently.

Helps families and their support systems find hope and healing after the loss of a child at any age. Provides encouragement, compassion and support through retreats, education and small groups. The groups provide a way to connect with other families who are walking a similar journey. Different from other retreats, Healing Hope hosts only 1 family at a time (in a guest house on on 5-acre property), creating a unique one-on-one experience. The facilitators walk alongside the families, not as counselors, but as peers that have been on a similar journey. Healing Hope also appreciates the opportunity to educate the community by sharing personal stories of grief and life lessons with different groups, churches, schools, etc.

Building Better Caregivers: workshop designated for family caregivers of people living with dementia, Alzheimer's, brain injury, other conditions that affect memory, and those who can no longer live at home independently. This is a virtual training. Surviving and Thriving Workshop: workshop designed for cancer survivors and caregivers to improve self-management skills. Chronic Disease Self-Management Workshop: workshop designed to improve the self-management skills of people living with ongoing health issues. Chronic Pain Self-Management Workshop: workshop designed to help participants live a healthy life with chronic pain by managing their symptoms. This is a virtual training. Diabetes Self-Management Workshop: workshop designed for people with prediabetes, type 2 diabetes, a family history of diabetes, and caregivers. Walk with Ease Workshop: a 6-week community-based walking program designed to engage participants to maintain a successful waking program. Workshops include health education, stretching, and group or self-guided walking. Enhance Fitness: group exercise program that helps older adults improve strength, balance, flexibility, and cardiovascular health. Tai Chi for Arthritis and Fall Prevention: exercise program designed to improve balance, reduce pain, and lower the risk of falls. Aging Mastery Program (AMP): 10-week program that helps older adults build their own playbook for aging well.

First Connection: For those who have recently diagnosed with cancer, the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society has provided the opportunity to speak with someone who's been through treatment and learned how to manage the same disease. The Patti Robinson Kaufmann First Connection Program is a peer-to-peer program that matches newly diagnosed patients and their families with trained volunteers who have been touched firsthand by a blood cancer and shared similar experiences. Online Chats: Live, weekly online chats provide a friendly forum to share experiences and chat with others about anything from the initial phase of diagnosis to treatment and survivorship. Each chat is moderated by an oncology social worker and is password-protected. The online chats are not a replacement for psychotherapy or support groups.
