Chamber & Development | Vermillion Area Chamber and Development Company

The Vermillion Area Chamber & Development Company (VCDC) functions as a Chamber of Commerce, office of Economic Development, and Visitor/Tourism Bureau for Vermillion and the surrounding area. It operates in direct partnership with several other agencies, including the City of Vermillion, University of South Dakota, and the nonprofit Missouri Valley Growth, to better grow the economic prosperity of the area and create a positive environment in which to do business. Services include business counseling, member marketing, referrals, networking opportunities, ribbon cuttings, groundbreakings, and much more. The VCDC publishes a semi-annual newsletter informing community of business trends, area news, and new chamber members. The VCDC hosts a community events calendar at and an online business directory of organizations belonging to the chamber on the website.

Provides faith-based support for those struggling with substance use or addiction. Offers spirituality based transitional living (room for 26 men and 8 women in an 8 - 12 month length of stay), 12-step programming, one-on-one mentoring, prayer and medication, speakers, and spiritual advisors.

Peer counseling: Provides opportunities for people with disabilities to engage with others in small or large groups or on an individual basis. Transition: Facilitates the transition of individuals with disabilities from a nursing home to independent living; providing prevention services to individuals who choose to live independently and not in a nursing home or assisted-living setting; and assisting youth to gain skills as they transition into adulthood. Community Living Services: Assists individuals in obtaining accessible, affordable housing, transportation, and other community living services. Home Modifications Adaptive Devices: Provides home modifications and adaptive devices, which could include ramps, lift chairs, bathroom modifications, reachers, canes, walkers and more. Telecommunication Adaptive Devices: Provides adapted telecommunication services, which includes an emergency phone dialer. American's with Disabilities Act: Serves as educators and consultants for contractors, businesses, organizations, and individuals regarding the American with Disabilities Act (ADA) and its guidelines and requirements. Assistive Daily Living Services: Provides services for people ages 18 and older, with physical disabilities affecting all four limbs, who need assistance with daily living activities. Services include program education and support and personal attendant services. Home Again South Dakota: Provides options for older adults and/or people with disabilities living in nursing homes, hospitals, or long-term care facilities to enable them to successfully return to their homes and communities. Provides the comforts of home to families with sick or injured children receiving medical care far from home. We serve families across all of South Dakota and the upper Midwest. Common Sense Parenting Class: Classes are interactive and include videotaped examples to watch, rather than a lecture format. In order to receive a certificate for class attendance, all participants must attend the first session, and be present for five out of six classes. For more information, or to register please call. Pre-registration is required. Group Mental Health Education Presentations: Offers presentations to youth groups or civic organizations. Topics cover a wide range of mental health issues from alcoholism and the family to stress management. SMILE: Education program for separating and divorcing parents with children under the age of 18, designed to inform parents how to better understand the effects of divorce; assist parents to understand the needs of their children; help parents learn what they can do to create a nurturing and safe environment so their children can recover and feel good about themselves; inform parents how to prevent destructive game playing that is common among divorce; help parents gain problem solving skills. Employment Services: Assistance is provided with seeking and keeping employment, including job search and applications, preparing for interviews, initial job training, job coaching, assistance with co-workers and staff meetings. Telecommunication Equipment Distribution: Providing installation, training, and equipment including amplified telephones, captioned telephones, ring signalers, and mobile phones/tablets. American Sign Language: Community based and contractual sign language classes, interpreter mentoring, information regarding ASL, deaf culture, and deaf history available to the public and private organizations.

Certified Interventionist by ARISE providing interventions. The goal is to urge the addicted or impaired person and family to accept help and get on a path to recovery. It is designed to help a loved one recognize and change self-destructive thoughts, feelings or behaviors. The intent is to confront the person in a non-threatening way. Volunteer Advocates | Sioux Falls Area Court Appointed Special Advocate Program

CASA recruits, screens, trains and provides guidance and support to volunteers who serve as advocates for abused and neglected children placed into foster care while involved in the court process. Mandatory training is required for all new volunteers. 30 hours of in-person or online training is available bi-monthly. Youth Development | Junior Achievement of South Dakota

Elementary School Program: Shows students the relationship between what they learn now and how it will impact their success later in life. This supplement to regular grade school curriculum is presented by a volunteer in five 30-45 minute sessions. Middle and High School Programs: Build on concepts learned in elementary programs; supplement standard social studies curriculum; help students make informed, intelligent decisions about how to prepare for educational, professional and financial futures; help students develop communication skills essential to the business world; and teach students about micro- and macro-economics as well as standard business practices.

Support Services | Independent Living Choices

Provides the following services - Advocacy: Teaches people with disabilities the skills needed to advocate for themselves. Independent Living Skills: Provides hands-on training in daily-living skills including cooking, budgeting, organizing, and more. Information and referral: Connects people with resources which can provide needed information to assist individuals to live independently. Peer counseling: Provides opportunities for people with disabilities to engage with others in small or large groups or on an individual basis. Transition: Facilitates the transition of individuals with disabilities from a nursing home to independent living; providing prevention services to individuals who choose to live independently and not in a nursing home or assisted-living setting; and assisting youth to gain skills as they transition into adulthood. Community Living Services: Assists individuals in obtaining accessible, affordable housing, transportation, and other community living services. Home Modifications Adaptive Devices: Provides home modifications and adaptive devices, which could include ramps, lift chairs, bathroom modifications, reachers, canes, walkers and more. Telecommunication Adaptive Devices: Provides adapted telecommunication services, which includes an emergency phone dialer. American's with Disabilities Act: Serves as educators and consultants for contractors, businesses, organizations, and individuals regarding the American with Disabilities Act (ADA) and its guidelines and requirements. Assistive Daily Living Services: Provides services for people ages 18 and older, with physical disabilities affecting all four limbs, who need assistance with daily living activities. Services include program education and support and personal attendant services. Home Again South Dakota: Provides options for older adults and/or people with disabilities living in nursing homes, hospitals, or long-term care facilities to enable them to successfully return to their homes and communities. Helps individuals identify barriers to living on their own, helps them find a place to live that meets their needs, and helps them find the services and supports they need to continue living independently.

Education and Prevention Services | Solace

Provides presentations to organizations, civic groups, and schools regarding healthy relationships, violence prevention, sexual assault, rape, and domestic violence, dating violence, controlling relationships, bystander training, effects of violence on children, resources for victims of violence, protection orders, safety plans, stalking, and human trafficking. Provides specific training programs to assist the community with violence prevention including: It's Our Business: developed for use in small- to mid-size businesses. Attendees learn how to prevent domestic violence and sexual assault/harassment in the workplace, as well as offering support to coworkers who have experienced violence in their lives. Safe Bars: hospitality staff are trained to spot sexual harassment and appropriate interventions. Little Navigators: trained therapists provide trauma-informed education to childcare facilities, support children in developing their social skills with peers and adults and development of feeling identification and expression, and provide on-site individual and group play-based therapy services.
