Provides the following services - Advocacy: Teaches people with disabilities the skills needed to advocate for themselves. Independent Living Skills: Provides hands-on training in daily-living skills including cooking, budgeting, organizing, and more. Information and referral: Connects people with resources which can provide needed information to assist individuals to live independently. Peer counseling: Provides opportunities for people with disabilities to engage with others in small or large groups or on an individual basis. Transition: Facilitates the transition of individuals with disabilities from a nursing home to independent living; providing prevention services to individuals who choose to live independently and not in a nursing home or assisted-living setting; and assisting youth to gain skills as they transition into adulthood. Community Living Services: Assists individuals in obtaining accessible, affordable housing, transportation, and other community living services. Home Modifications Adaptive Devices: Provides home modifications and adaptive devices, which could include ramps, lift chairs, bathroom modifications, reachers, canes, walkers and more. Telecommunication Adaptive Devices: Provides adapted telecommunication services, which includes an emergency phone dialer. American's with Disabilities Act: Serves as educators and consultants for contractors, businesses, organizations, and individuals regarding the American with Disabilities Act (ADA) and its guidelines and requirements. Assistive Daily Living Services: Provides services for people ages 18 and older, with physical disabilities affecting all four limbs, who need assistance with daily living activities. Services include program education and support and personal attendant services. ​Money Follows the Person: Provides options for older adults and/or people with disabilities living in nursing homes, hospitals, or long-term care facilities to enable them to successfully return to their homes and communities. Employment Services: Assistance is provided with seeking and keeping employment, including job search and applications, preparing for interviews, initial job training, job coaching, assistance with co-workers and staff meetings. Telecommunication Equipment Distribution: Providing installation, training, and equipment including amplified telephones, captioned telephones, ring signalers, and mobile phones/tablets. American Sign Language: Community based and contractual sign language classes, interpreter mentoring, information regarding ASL, deaf culture, and deaf history available to the public and private organizations.

This supplement to regular grade school curriculum is presented by a volunteer in five 30-45 minute sessions. The Vermillion Area Chamber & Development Company (VCDC) functions as a Chamber of Commerce, office of Economic Development, and Visitor/Tourism Bureau for Vermillion and the surrounding area. It operates in direct partnership with several other agencies, including the City of Vermillion, University of South Dakota, and the nonprofit Missouri Valley Growth, to better grow the economic prosperity of the area and create a positive environment in which to do business. The VCDC publishes a semi-annual newsletter informing community of business trends, area news, and new chamber members. LifeSight provides four primary programs: - KidsFIRST: provides free vision screenings for pre-school and elementary school children by means of partnerships with area eye care professionals and local volunteers. To schedule a KidsFIRST free vision screening, contact LifeSight at 605-716-6733. Screenings are available for children 6 months of age - 5th grade. - Gift of Sight: provides sight-saving surgeries to those in our community without the financial means to afford care, helping these individuals regain their vision, and most importantly, independence, mobility and quality of life. This program is available only by referral from an area eye doctor (optometrist or ophthalmologist). - VisionCARE: provides no-cost eye exams and glasses, critical to one's overall health and wellbeing, to individuals who meet program criteria and have no other option for care, providing a simple but powerful path to helping people see better to live better. Contact LifeSight at 605-716-6733 for program criteria information. - Scholarship Program: Annually awards the LifeSight Dr. Paul L. Zimmerman Memorial Endowed Scholarship to a fourth year student at the University of South Dakota Sanford School of Medicine planning to pursue a career in ophthalmology. LifeSight does not offer Eye Examinations, but serves as a resource and referral contact for those with vision impairment.

Provides the following services - Advocacy: Teaches people with disabilities the skills needed to advocate for themselves. Independent Living Skills: Provides hands-on training in daily-living skills including cooking, budgeting, organizing, and more. Information and referral: Connects people with resources which can provide needed information to assist individuals to live independently. Peer counseling: Provides opportunities for people with disabilities to engage with others in small or large groups or on an individual basis. Transition: Facilitates the transition of individuals with disabilities from a nursing home to independent living; providing prevention services to individuals who choose to live independently and not in a nursing home or assisted-living setting; and assisting youth to gain skills as they transition into adulthood. Community Living Services: Assists individuals in obtaining accessible, affordable housing, transportation, and other community living services. Home Modifications Adaptive Devices: Provides home modifications and adaptive devices, which could include ramps, lift chairs, bathroom modifications, reachers, canes, walkers and more. Telecommunication Adaptive Devices: Provides adapted telecommunication services, which includes an emergency phone dialer. American's with Disabilities Act: Serves as educators and consultants for contractors, businesses, organizations, and individuals regarding the American with Disabilities Act (ADA) and its guidelines and requirements. Assistive Daily Living Services: Provides services for people ages 18 and older, with physical disabilities affecting all four limbs, who need assistance with daily living activities. Services include program education and support and personal attendant services. ​Money Follows the Person: Provides options for older adults and/or people with disabilities living in nursing homes, hospitals, or long-term care facilities to enable them to successfully return to their homes and communities. Helps individuals identify barriers to living on their own, helps them find a place to live that meets their needs, and helps them find the services and supports they need to continue living independently.

Provides the comforts of home to families with sick or injured children receiving medical care far from home. We serve families across all of South Dakota and the upper Midwest. Provides services to people who are deaf, hard of hearing, deaf/blind, and/or have a speech disability. Community Education and Support: Provides a variety of direct service programming to deaf and hard of hearing consumers and the general public, including advocacy, peer support, mentoring, independent living, deaf mentoring, social services, recreation and social activities, senior citizen services, and other services as available. Employment Services: Assistance is provided with seeking and keeping employment, including job search and applications, preparing for interviews, initial job training, job coaching, assistance with co-workers and staff meetings. Telecommunication Equipment Distribution: Providing installation, training, and equipment including amplified telephones, captioned telephones, ring signalers, and mobile phones/tablets. American Sign Language: Community based and contractual sign language classes, interpreter mentoring, information regarding ASL, deaf culture, and deaf history available to the public and private organizations.

Common Sense Parenting Class: Classes are interactive and include videotaped examples to watch, rather than a lecture format. In order to receive a certificate for class attendance, all participants must attend the first session, and be present for five out of six classes. For more information, or to register please call. Pre-registration is required. Group Mental Health Education Presentations: Offers presentations to youth groups or civic organizations. Topics cover a wide range of mental health issues from alcoholism and the family to stress management. SMILE: Education program for separating and divorcing parents with children under the age of 18, designed to inform parents how to better understand the effects of divorce; assist parents to understand the needs of their children; help parents learn what they can do to create a nurturing and safe environment so their children can recover and feel good about themselves; inform parents how to prevent destructive game playing that is common among divorce; help parents gain problem solving skills.
