The County Veterans Service Officer assists veterans, dependents, and survivors by providing information, assistance, counseling, and referrals on a wide range of subject, benefits, and veteran programs. CVSO's are trained to provide information on the following topics: Offers complete claims service and explanation of VA procedures, Provides follow-up service once a decision has been made, GI loans, Compensation and pension, Survivors benefits, Education benefits, On-the-job and apprenticeship training, State benefits, Social Security benefits, Employment and unemployment, Small Business Development information, Corrections of Military Records, Review of discharges, Medical and dental treatment, Hospitalization or outpatient treatment, Nursing home care, Residency at the State Veterans' Home, Rehabilitation, Information and payment assistance for alcoholism and drug dependency treatment, Burial benefits, Obtaining flags, and Information on community programs. Transportation to the Fort Meade VA Clinic is available on Tuesdays, call the Butte County VSO at least 24 hours in advance to make a reservation. Call ahead for a ride on the DAV van. Sioux Falls Counseling Services | Vet Center

Community-based counseling center that provide a wide range of social and psychological services, including professional readjustment counseling to eligible Veterans, active duty service members, including National Guard and Reserve components, and their families. Bereavement services for family members is also available. Readjustment counseling is offered to make a successful transition from military to civilian life or after a traumatic event experienced in the military. Service Dog Training | Big Paws Canine

Provides service, therapy, and companion dogs to Disabled Veterans and Former First Responders injured in the line of duty. Provides these Service Dogs for $1.00 through fund raising events and donations. These funds are used to supplement the costs of veterinary visits, vaccinations, spaying/neutering, kennels, harnesses, leashes, food, travel, training equipment, and even toys. Veterans and former First Responders can become members of Big Paws, and pay an annual fee of $12.00 for unlimited training for dog and handler.

River Cities Public Transit (RCPT) coordinates with all other transit agencies in South Dakota and can facilitate a ride statewide for medical appointments. Additional rides for other purposes (grocery shopping, etc.) can be arranged during a medical appointment trip, but the main purpose must be for a medical appointment. Also, is Jefferson Lines associated. Accepts Medicaid; there are many transportation grant opportunities available through RCPT.
