Employment Services - Staff can help identify career interests, write a resume, prepare for a job interview and access appropriate training. Job listings are posted from local employers, state-wide employers, and federal and state government agencies. Job search assistance classes are available in addition to computers to conduct a job search or apply on-line. All individuals seeking employment or information about the local labor market receive assistance at no charge.

Eligibility determinations for special programs and services that employ and train veterans. Information on how to apply for federal, state, county and city employment. Employment information for newly separated or transitioning service members. Assistance with cross-matching military skills to civilian employment. Direct referrals to job openings. Intensive services and employment assistance for disabled veterans; those with a military disability, may also qualify for vocational rehabilitation services.

Services provides for Hyde County including public transportation is available in the Highmore area. ADA accessible vehicles are available to passengers with special needs. Medical appointments pre-scheduled between 10:00am - 1:00 pm CT 9:00am - 12:00pm MT before date of appointment. Trips to Rapid City or Sioux Falls will be coordinated with River Cities Public Transit out of Pierre. (This may affect pick-up times). All out of town medical trips are on a 1st come 1st serve basis and are based on driver availability. Non-medical out of town trips available with 48 hour notice. Medicaid is an accepted form of payment for medical trips.
There are many transportation grant opportunities available through RCPT. Call for more information. RCPT coordinates with all other transit agencies in South Dakota and can facilitate a ride statewide. Also, is Jefferson Lines associated.

Provides service, therapy, and companion dogs to Disabled Veterans and Former First Responders injured in the line of duty.
Provides these Service Dogs for $1.00 through fund raising events and donations. These funds are used to supplement the costs of veterinary visits, vaccinations, spaying/neutering, kennels, harnesses, leashes, food, travel, training equipment, and even toys.
Veterans and former First Responders can become members of Big Paws, and pay an annual fee of $12.00 for unlimited training for dog and handler.

Provides a practical means by which veterans organizations throughout the state may effectively contribute to the betterment of all veterans in three principle phases, as follows:
Legislation affecting veterans and their dependents.
Concern for the general programs for all veterans and their dependents and all veterans' organization, principally hospital, labor and social.
Make public information in behalf of all veterans and their dependents and veterans organizations represented and establish a system of public relations for this purpose.

Community-based counseling center that provide a wide range of social and psychological services, including professional readjustment counseling to eligible Veterans, active duty service members, including National Guard and Reserve components, and their families. Bereavement services for family members is also available.

National Emergency Fund | American Legion
Provides up to $3,000 for qualified Legionnaires or Sons of The American Legion, and up to $10,000 for qualified American Legion posts that have been affected by natural disasters.
Applicant must have been displaced from their home due to damage sustained during a natural disaster. If emergency/disaster shelters are available, and applicant chooses not to stay at shelter, then they need to provide a reason why they did not stay in shelter.
The online application only covers most immediate needs (e.g. temporary housing, food, water, clothing, diapers, etc.) during the period after the disaster happens.

The Turner County Veterans Service Office (VSO) assists veterans, and their dependents and survivors in applying for veterans' benefits including benefits from the Department of Veterans Affairs and the State of South Dakota. Referrals are also made to other agencies that may have potential benefits for veterans.​
Areas of primary activity are VA health care, education, disability claims, death benefits, survivor's benefits, home loan certificates, and obtaining military records and discharges.
The County VSO is an excellent source for information on all matters relating to veterans' benefits. The staff has the training and experience to serve veterans' needs.
The County Veterans Service Office offers complete claims service and explanation of VA procedures. Provides follow-up service once a decision has been made. Provides information regarding eligibility at VA medical facilities. Assists eligible South Dakota veterans in applying for the South Dakota State Bonus Program.
