The County Veterans Service Officer assists veterans, dependents, and survivors by providing information, assistance, counseling, and referrals on a wide range of subject, benefits, and veteran programs. CVSO's are trained to provide information on the following topics - Offers complete claims service and explanation of VA procedures. Provides follow-up service once a decision has been made. Also offers GI loans, Compensation and pension, Survivors benefits, Education benefits, On-the-job and apprenticeship training, State benefits, Social Security benefits, Small business development information, Corrections of military records, Review of discharges, Medical and dental treatment, Nursing home care, Residency at the State Veterans' Home, Rehabilitation, Burial benefits, Obtaining flags, and Information on community programs. Veterans are encouraged to register their discharge information (DD Form 214, Report of Separation) with the County Registrar of Deeds Office.

60's + Dining is a senior congregate meal program that provides a nutritious noon meal which reduces or prevents malnutrition, a major cause of other health problems. The program also provides socialization for the participants, which helps ease the problem of isolation among older persons. Persons who are unable to leave their homes due to illness or frailty may receive a home-delivered meal, while those who are able to travel meet at a congregate site for their meals. Participants in the program are asked to make a donation for the meal, but no one is refused service if unable to do so. Frozen Meal Program available to any client over 60. Quality, balanced, nutritious meals are flash frozen in specialty containers that can be heated in the microwave.

Acts as an advocate and provides assistance to military veterans and their dependents in determining eligibility and applying for various federal and state benefits, such as service-connected compensation, non-service connected pension, outpatient and hospital medical treatment, guaranteed home loan certificates, education and on-the-job training benefits, burial benefits, survivor benefits, referral information, as well as many others.

Responsible for supervising the structuring and maintenance of County Roads and Bridges and to address concerns as they develop. The County Highway Superintendent is appointed to this position by the Board of County Commissioners.

Provides funding for Sisseton-Wahpeton Oyate students to pursue higher education. Undergraduate students are paid according to per credit hour earned. Graduate students receive the endowment incentive based on graduate level of studies and will be paid according to per credit hour earned.

A drop-off recycling facility accepting the following recyclable items: plastic #1 and #2, tin cans, aluminum cans (market share price paid for aluminum cans), newspaper, corrugated cardboard, cereal/beer/pop/shoe boxes, lightweight press board, computer and white paper, mixed office and pastel paper (includes junk mail & window envelopes), shred office paper, magazines, catalogs, slicks, books, phone books, and scrap metals. Satellite drop-off trailers available around the City of Vermillion and accept only basic recyclables. For reasons of safety and capacity, cardboard and glass should not be deposited into the trailers.

Heartland Humane Society helps pets find people. Call the shelter if interested in adopting, volunteering, in need of assistance with pet food, or to surrender a pet.

Oversight division for the parolees under supervision of the Department of Corrections. Parole Services consists of the Parole Agents, supervisors and support staff who are responsible for monitoring the day-to-day activities of the parolee. Parole Agents conduct investigations; assist with parole revocation hearings and assist in finding necessary community services where available.

Connects people to safe and confidential services related to preventing pregnancy, achieving pregnancy, and assisting to achieve the desired number of children. Also offers STI screening, pregnancy testing, birth control options, and resources to maintain a healthy reproductive system.

Services offered are short and long term skilled nursing care, physical, speech, and occupational therapy, assisted living, respite care, restorative program, special diets, IV therapy, comprehensive nursing care, social services, activities, and a full time chaplain available. Rental housing and supportive services for independent seniors is also offered on the Bethany Home Sioux Falls campus. Bethany Houses provide adults 55+ with a senior friendly home with building maintenance, lawn care, and snow removal all included in the rent. Seniors can also choose from a variety of meal and housekeeping services to support their independent living if desired.

The library offers a wide variety of services including print and non-print materials, WiFi, and public internet computers.

Library services offered are Adult and Children's Fiction and Non-Fiction Books, eBooks, Audio Books, Resource Database, VHS/DVD's, Summer Reading Program, computers, printer, internet access, and a community room.

Offers assisted living and memory care. Services include 24-hour staffing, 24-hour nursing services, emergency pendent system, dietary services, medication management, assistance with personal care, housekeeping and laundry, activities and outings, and some transportation and coordination. Also provides respite care and adult day services.

Provides friendship and free in-home assistance with activities to help older persons remain living independently in their own homes. Major focus is clients over 60. Small percentage of clients served are adults (over 21) with disabilities. Eligibility is based on need for service. Senior Companions must be age 55 or older, meet an income guideline, and be willing to serve a minimum of 15 hours a week and to reach out and provide service to others. Senior Companions are paid a tax-free stipend for their volunteer work and mileage.

The Summer Recreation Program consists of softball and baseball programs for children ages 5 to 14.

English Language (ESL) classes are offered to non-native speakers. Speaking, reading, and writing are taught for beginner, intermediate, and advanced level students. GED preparation courses, available both in-person and online, are taught in the four subject areas covered in the official GED tests.

Services provided include coordinating all agencies within the jurisdiction to include public, private, and non-governmental organizations to ensure the protection of life and property in the event of threatened or actual natural disaster, terrorism, technological, or man-made events. Responsibilities includes developing and maintaining the county plans for reacting to emergencies; trains other agencies to respond to emergencies; during an actual emergency, the director coordinates the action and response. Community outpatient mental health facility. Provides mental health services to children, adolescents and adults. Services include but are not limited to psychiatric care and evaluations, children's services, group and individual counseling, play therapy, aggression management, and more.

Provides nursing facility, assisted living, and independent living care in a home-like environment with individualized care plans. Nursing Facility services include but are not limited to: 24-hour nursing care, therapeutic activities, onsite therapy services, daily housekeeping and laundry, social and recreational programs, religious services, dietary services, and medication management. Nursing facility services also provide memory care and hospice care options. Assisted Living services include but are not limited to: 24-hour healthcare staffing, medication assistance, onsite therapy services, social and recreational services, and dietary services. Independent living services include but are not limited to: noon meal daily, programs to promote health and wellness, opportunities for social, recreational, spiritual, and educational development, nursing consultation, 24-hour on-site staffing, and regular wellness checks and immunizations.

Serves individuals and families in need with Food Pantry, Crisis Fund (1 time / year) depending on availability of funds - Rent (can include rent or deposit); Utility assistance including: deposit, past due bill, and disconnect notices for trash, water, lights, and heating; and help with budgeting/financial planning. Backpack School program - weekend food for Beresford School students. Faith in Action also networks clients with other organizations/ resources that may help them with their situation.

Offers independent living, assisted living, and memory care services offering a range of assistance with activities of daily living for aging residents, including those who have been diagnosed with dementia and Alzheimer's. Respite Stays are available in most locations except in Rapid City.

Gas vouchers transportation to medical appointments. Vouchers can only be given once in a calendar year.
