Responsible for collection and disposal of garbage and yard waste. The Huron Municipal Transfer Station road is located ¼ mile east of the James River Bridge on 3rd Street. Turn south on the gravel ¼ mile and east ½ mile. Loads which contain loose material must be tarped and tied. All loads brought to the transfer station are subject to inspections to screen out prohibited materials
Rubble Site (1901 9th Street S.E.) services: Residences may access the site one a month for free (with a water utility bill and ID). Items not included are; tires, Freon compressors, entire buildings, household garbage, microwaves, televisions, computer monitors, electronics, vacuum cleaners, and any other items as required by state law. Compost is available for purchase
Residential garbage collection - Locate your residence on the color-coded collection map to determine the day of your garbage pickup using the color key for the map. Garbage must be bagged and placed inside the brown container so that the lid is closed. Overfilled containers WILL NOT be picked up, please call if you are in need of additional containers. Holiday collection changes please call.

Christmas Trees: Christmas tree drop-off point for Yankton residents at the parking lot west of the Riverside Park baseball stadium. Christmas trees can also be taken to the Yankton Transfer Station during regular business hours. The Christmas tree drop-off point and the Transfer Station will start accepting trees beginning after December 26. A one-time residential, front curb, pick-up date will be determined in December.
City Wide Cleanup: Spring cleaning opportunity, front curb pickup, for residents on the city garbage routes for tree branches, wood products, metal items, and concrete. For information on what items will not be picked up visit the city website.

The Sioux Falls Landfill or a citizen's private garbage hauler can answer questions concerning either the yard waste or recycling programs.
Free Landfill Pass - Sioux Falls residents receive a free paperless pass for one free trip to the City of Sioux Falls Sanitary Landfill. Residents may present a driver's license or state ID card for scanning at the landfill entrance. Pass is limited to one annual free trip to the landfill per household address. Passes are based on zip code which opens program to those living in multi-family units, such as apartment buildings. The pass will allow the addressee to dispose of one load (less than 3 cubic yards or gross vehicle weight less than 10,000 pounds) at the landfill. Residents may not pay an individual to haul your load, as the load will then be considered a contractor or commercial load. All loads must be tarped or tied down to be admitted free.
Small branch size debris can be disposed of at the City's 2 Leaf, Grass and Small Branch Drop Off locations which are open Saturday, April 13 - Sunday, May 26, 2024.

The landfill is located on 450 acres and has operated at this location since 1960. On an average day the landfill receives 450-500 tons of non-hazardous solid waste. In addition to household waste, the landfill receives construction and demolition debris, non-hazardous special wastes, and non-infectious medical waste for disposal. A Subtitle D landfill which can accept anything considered non-hazardous or liquid.
Garbage and Waste:

liquids like non solidified paints, stains, week killers, oil etc.
also can not accept medical waste or anything considered hazardous (ie. anything labeled Dangerous, Combustible, Caution, Flammable etc.) Examples include; antifreeze, fire extinguishers, gas, water/oil mixtures, herbicides, fertilizers, mag-water, full aerosol cans, etc.

All electronics are directed to Black Hills Eco-Works for recycling. For current fees, contact Black Hills Eco-Works. Rapid City Landfill does have an Eco-Works drop-off site on the citizen campus for computers, laptops, tables, and cell phones for no fee.
